So I have had my other issues sorted but my specialist couldn't sort the roof. I have noticed something strange and wondered if any others on here could let me know if this is right as it may lead me to my problem solved.
My latch won't latch it just grabs and let's go and does this over and over. (When trying to put the soft top up)
I've had the roof calibrated and the piwis says all microswitches are ok. The rear control unit was swapped and still the same issue. I have recently changed the microswitch in the windscreen and sourced another convertible top ecu. Still the same.
I have noticed by accident that the soft top will try and come up with the hardtop on and latched, this to me doesn't seem right and could cause alot of damage (my key was in my pocket when I Bent over and it triggered for a second) is this normal you wouldn't think it was possible and should be some safety system here. Also should my windows drop a little when I unlatch the hardtop?? As they don't. This to me would indicate a microswitch problem in the screen part which I have changed.
If anyone could help here before I am forced to take it to a Porsche main dealer this would be fab. It has to be something simple, surely??

Hi, if you’re referring to the latch on the hardtop, then sounds like the latch is at fault. Correctly positioned in the rear fixings, the top should engage without an issue.
The windows do not lower when installing the hardtop and must be ‘retaught’ the stop limits once the hardtop is on.
I have never engaged the cabrio roof whilst the hardtop is on, so can’t comment on whether or not it is automatically disabled, but would imagine it should be. Did you also check connections behind the rear seats to the hardtop bolt receiver units?

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate the input. The hard top goes on without issue and is tight and windows go up and down.when I remove the hardtop and i try to put the soft top up I get the latching issue, it just wont wont finish the sequence it latches and unlatches then tries again and will just do this till I let go of the button. It does suggest a microswitch issue but like I mentioned the piwis test came back as all good and i also changed the switch just incase, if I time it to stop when it is latched tight I then have no control over the windows an they won't go up.
On the 996 I see some similar issue and it always seems to be a plastic cover on the latch hook itself missing or broken. The 997 doesnt have this peice and it is definitely engaging the switch but has the same symptoms.

Ok I understand now. I would suggest taking it to Porsche, as the PIWIS is calibrated and it sounds as if the process is not completing due to possible calibration issues. Do you not get the ‘convertible hood not in closed position limit’ message on your dash?
It may also be possible that after removing the hardtop, the cabrio roof still thinks it is on and does not engage as a result. You could try unplugging the hardtop bolt receiver behind the seats and see if that makes a difference. Other than that I can’t be sure it’s not a microswitch issue.

Thanks again. It has been on a piwis and been calibrated.
So what does do is hard top device look like that I could unplug?
Cheers.

Thanks. Tried that ,looks like it's just the power for the heated screen which is piggy backed into the original for the soft top. Any other ideas are much welcomed. Thanks
