997 Gen 1 Cabriolet - depreciating to growing in value?

Three sources have recently indicated to me, including this month's 911 & Porsche World magazine, that early 997s are either at the bottom of their depreciation curve or actually appreciating. If this is true I should consider bringing my purchase forward before they go up anymore, and it could be considered an investment. This would be more of a financial stretch that I would like, but waiting for my funds to grow as I have been could be counter productive. I'd be interested in your views.

I've also been told that the 997s from 2006 M.Y. onwards are to be preferred as they are likely to present fewer problems after development during the two previous M.Y.s. However, Clive White's buying guide indicates that the 2006 M.Y. was when the cabriolet was launched, so am I right in thinking that all 997 Cabriolets fall into this category anyway?

Not sure on the cabriolet question specifically, however I have read from one more than one more source 997's are on the up and having driven the new 991.2 engine at Silverstone this weekend, I can understand why, especially when compared to the 9A1 engine!!

Hi there, I've recently advertised my 2006 C2S Cab and was really unsure of pricing, especially due to the big difference seen in low to high mileage 997's. Mine is pretty low at 46,000 miles, and I've seen some through dealers up around the £30k mark for well spec'd Gen 1 'S' models.

As I'm expecting a baby any day now, I've taken it off the market, but I had been looking for the right buyer for it! I must admit I've gotten attached and got the go ahead to keep her a little longer ;).

Do feel free to get in touch through a private message if you are keen on a Bassalt Black Manual with black interior with most gadgets like Sat Nav, electrics, parking sensors etc. I really don't think I'll be getting much use over the coming year so will prob advertise again soon.

Otherwise all the best with your search - I promise you won't regret the ownership of a 911, whatever model!

Cheers
Peter

I had an e- mail from "We buy any car.com" last week offering me £2000 more than they originally quoted last Sept for my 2007 Carrera C2S Cab.

There aren't many cars that are an investment and it tends to be the rarer or halo models first, until the whole model range gets old and rare and sought-after. Whilst I don't know the status of the 997.1 cabriolet's demand vs production numbers, when you take into account running costs (if you are going to look after it properly and also enjoy it by driving it), a car has to appreciate significantly before it can be considered an investment. Breaking even would be a triumph.

Many thanks Peter,
I've seen cars like your advertised in excess of £30,000, but I have mostly been looking at the prices at Porsche specialists like 911 Virgin and Porsche Centres, so am less qualified to judge private sales prices. It sounds as though yours would be a good buy, although colour is very much a personal choice and, unfortunately, black would not be my preference.

I am in R31 and regularly attend the events at Cornbury House. If you plan to attend any it would be good to have a chat about your car and your 997 experiences. Thanks for replying to my post and I hope to catch up with you soon. Congratulations on your impending event.

Many thanks, Brendan,
I'm getting a range of answers to the question of 997 values, but I'm beginning to feel that there is substance in the view that their depreciation is at least levelling out. I'm continuing to explore the subject!

Alan.

Thanks, Cecil, for responding to my post.
Your views are very grounded and ring true. I mustn't get too carried away with the possibility that 997 depreciation may at least be slowing down. As I said to Brendon I remain on the case!

Alan.
