997 Gen 2 C2 S Hesitation at 3k

I picked up my C2S back in October

It is a manual version and I noticed immediately an intermittent hesitation at just below 3000 rpm

Try as I might I cannot get the OPC to recognise the existence of the issue let alone offer up a solution

Has anybody else experienced this subtle issue?

Yes I have exactly the same. I have a gen 2 4s and was told its when it switches throttle bodies or something.
 
I know that my 996 C2 (2003) is quite a different engine in some ways - but it's almost certainly when the vario cam kicks in. Mine does it around 2,800rpm and it's more pronounced depending on air temperature and the RON of the fuel that I currently have on board.

I would say that this is what you're experiencing too.

It seems it is a normal feature but not something I experienced on the 997 Gen 1

 
An engine remap seems to mostly eliminate the hesitation, instead it pulls like anything at 3k[:D]
 
Surely the variocam is not an on/off thing and continuously varies the lift between a high and low postition rather than simply switching between high lift and low lift? The system doesn't work by having two separate cam profiles - it works by having the hydraulic tappets change length to vary the valve lift. Seems having an on/off vario cam system is a bit early '80's crude VTEC to me. Surely things have moved on in the last 20 yrs.
 
My generation 2, manual C4S collected last November exhibits the same hesitation just below 3,000 rpm . Local OPC have adopted the same attitude as experienced by you.
The C4S I drove at Silverstone on the driving experience was smooth a silk. I described my problem to the Driving Consultant but he could offer no advice or excuse.
Previous 997 (2007 model C2 cab) with "old" engine was very smooth.
The longer I have this car the more irritating the hesitation becomes and overshadows the driving pleasure to the extent that it may have to go.
What a shame.
 
I haven't noticed this so far but will take the 'new' car out for a fast run this weekend.

I wonder what the OPC will say if the problem does exist. Perhaps asking for a re-map would be a wise idea before complaining?
 
Just to report that I went to York yesterday and pushed the car a bit. No signs of any hesitation in the 3,000-4,000 rpm band.

Got astonishing MPG of about 30.8 [according to the OBC] and an average speed of 44 mph on a 420 mile journey!! This would mean about 450 on a full tank of petrol [BP Ultimate].
