Hi
Can anyone advise on launch control , how often can you use it, what are the implication if any if you over use it. Is there a program that dictates what has to be replaced within the owners manual for eg driveshafts ,differentials etc aftre you would use it a nuber of times and is this logged within the ecu. Im not worried about tyres.
Regards

On a driving day last week at Porsche Silverstone centre whilst driving the Turbo S I asked a similar question and was told there are no recordings on the car, and around the cars launch time they were carrying out over 150 launches per car.
I haven't tried it in mine yet though.

There was a story I read once about PDK/launch testing. They (the engineers)set out early one morning to destroy the gearbox by doing launch after launch. By teatime they got fed up and went home......[:D] How true? I don't know but there are no limits on it's use other than a gearbox oil temperature limitation, as far as I know. If you do repeated launches with little interval then it may get too hot at which point it will not let you do it again - for a while.
There is a "warning " in the owners manual that using launch may reduce the lifespan of certain transmission components but is very non specific and I think more of a cover their backside statement.
How often are you planning on using it then?[;)]
Edit - I've probably used mine about a dozen times in a year.

The Tavy Traffic Light GP then eh? [;)]
Apart from two pedestrian crossings we don't have any![;)] Wouldn't want to frighten the horses in any case. [:D] It's a totally ridiculous feature but a churlish to not give it a whizz now and again!

You're lucky. At last count there were something like 80 odd traffic lights in Barnstaple. No point in using launch since 50 yds. down the road there's another set (usually at red)! []

I guess LC was only developed because of magazine obsession with 0-60 times - which are completely unrepresentative of a modern sports cars performance these days given the shift times are more influential than the acceleration. They all need to switch to 100-200 kph times IMHO as this gives a much better indication of performance.

I think I've used launch control 4 times since I've had the car and can remember every one! Its great fun but completely ridiculous at the traffic lights as you would look like a complete cretin. At the 1/2 day silverstone experience thingy you get for "free", I remember my instructor telling me that the black turbo s they have had done >500 launches with no problem. I'm sure that you could carry on doing them all day if you wanted, but why? There's so much more to the car than this one party trick....now, where's that sport plus button!!!

Either that or just because they could. With or without LC it's still plenty quick enough for road use! (up to 112kph.[;)])

Well,
Normally you would start of with Hi thanks for all the answers, but having had 4s, turbos, gt3,s , anglia 1200 full race, none of you have come up with the answer i was looking for , ???? what is covered under warranty under launch control. Its bedtime and after two bottles of Chianti i have decided to do the 500 launch control in b d with wi e

You should have asked that question in the original post! To my knowledge if the car has warranty and something breaks using LC then it is covered. They can hardly put it on the car and then say if something goes pop it your fault. (Well, I guess they may try) I don't recall seeing any disclaimer to that effect anyway. It's not a Nissan after all..........[;)]
