997 GenII 2009 SatNav Europe?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if European navigation is standard for 997 GenII 2009 (PCM 3 I assume) - only had the car a few weeks, and off to RUF in a few weeks with a friend to collect is rebuilt 997 Turbo. Do I need to update the software? Or should I take my Garmin just in case!

Any advice welcome.

Cheers,

Lee

I'd check it has the latest updates whilst you're at it- the OPC have been doing what could be considered a good value for money update on the mapping of recent months.

Yes, good point Gary.

You can verify the software version currently loaded via the normal controls on the front of the PCM as follows:-

Turn on the ignition and PCM 3 (any screen), now press "Source" and "Info" buttons simultaneously. You will get a screen displaying your software version in the top.

Your looking for V2.23 for the latest version (which also gives you 7 digit postcodes).

Clive.

Fantastic guys! Will check the version... I'm sure I cannot enter a full post code currently only 4 digits?

I will also stick the RUF address in and see what is comes up with a route plan from the Eurotunnel in France via Belgium and over to Bavaria. (My trip over to drop my friends 997 T to RUF we drove his new RRoyce and that some pretty nice BMW based software and heads up display etc - simples).

Thanks again.

Lee

No, that's my 2011 997.2 turbo, Clive.

(SatNav updated 28DEC2013)

Actually, aside we also have different screens (content I mean), I recall arriving at this info via a different set of button presses to what you indicate. I will go out now and look again.

OK, thanks for the clarification.

As with most things, I find myself behind the times once again! [&:]

I might be wrong, but I recall 2.23 has a minor bug where recent destinations don't get stored correctly if you enter a destination with postcode only.

Is 2.23 also for 2013MY maps, and 2.24 for 2014MY maps?

Hi I had the up grade done in January. Well worth it at the special £149.99 price particularly for UK use with 7 digit postcode. It all works really well now. I access PCM like RK Flyer has described to check on the version. Mine is V2.24.
However no problems in Europe last year with the old system. It took us to the hotel door each time. It has worked well again on this years trip (through 6 countries) with the upgrade.

I run a TomTom GO 1005 in parallel to PCM because it is much better at navigating round traffic jams. It's unfortunate that the German Autobahn network operates so close to saturation at certain times that you can get stuck in huge traffic jams which completely negate the benefits of being able to drive with no speed limit on (increasingly rare) sections.

Just an update - just booked this upgrade with local OPC (East London) and still £149.99... takes all day so they have offered car pick up or courtesy car. Still a lot to pay for a missing 'basic' feature and is the cost of a new Garmin.. but I cannot stand getting close to somewhere and not actually to my destination ... lol... So it has to be done.

Reviewing this, I understand the V2.23 is the latest upgrade for PCM 3.0. Whilst V2.24 is the upgrade appropriate for PCM 3.1 - the two are incompatible.

The latest Total 911 magazine has an article about PCM through the ages and warns that a factory reset, typically used when the car is sold to clear all personal data will reverse any upgrades to the original version, including the 7 digit postcode upgrade many of us have had done.
Does anyone know if this is true?

I have read of an owner that has had this happen to him, I'm sure he posted here with a warning!

I wonder if all customer upgrades would be affected. I had a puddle MF wheel replaced with a Sports paddle wheel and that required a Porsche code to enable the necessary software upgrade. It would be perverse in the extreme if a reset disabled the car's ability to cope with the retrofitted steering wheel. Perhaps this Porsche code adds permanently to the VIN configuration?

HAD THE FULL POST CODE UPGRADE LAST FRIDAY DURING THE 4TH YEAR SERVICE ON MY GTS THE PC DID IT FOR FREE
IT WORKS WELL IT GOT ME BACK HOME
