997 Good Books

Are there any good books on the 997? I am interested in about everything really: design, dynamics, body, engine, specs, perfomance...

I recently bought the new Porsche-sponsored "Cayman. Thrill of the Chase" and I am not that happy about it. My view is that the book is indeed a collection of magnificent pictures, but in-depth information is very much absent.

Hope someone can help or pont me in the right direction

Many thanks

Have you gone into your local OPC and asked for their info on a 997. When I was looking for my 997, they gave me a 170 page hardback book which tells you everything you would want to know. There's also a 911 carrera price list which accompanies it. Might not be exactly what your after, but it's free and it was quite useful.

For more information I can recommend the following book:

Porsche 911 Story (Eight edition) by Paul Frere

"Rather like the car it describes, the evergreen "Porsche 911 Story" continues to delight marque enthusiasts of all ages. Describing the full history of this timeless sports car, Paul Frere, grand master of Porsche road testing and writing, brings his classic book right up to date in an eighth edition that includes details of model years 2003, 2004 and 2005, and the major competition successes of the GT3 models."

ISBN 1844253015
£25.00 (£16.50 from Amazon with 'free' postage).

What you will be interested in is - this edition includes upto the 997/997S Coupe/Cabriolet - the previous seventh edition stopped at the 996. It also has incredible amounts of detail, figures, drawings on the chassis, engine, gearboxes, racing etc.

It's a better source of infomation than your OPC but probably stops short of what Walter Rohrl knows about the 911

It doesn't fit the bill as a coffee table book of pictures but is otherwise excellent.

If you want a coffee table book with plenty of good pictures, plus some detail of the whole development through to production of the 997 you'll like this one.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0760321205/026-8346196-7050860?v=glance&n=266239&v=glance. The text is a bit 'poetic' in places but has some great info and pictures of the 997. Don't be fooled by the title - it's pure 997 only this book, it doesn't cover the earlier models other than a few comparison notes and picures.

It's up for a good price too - I paid £25 a year ago for a copy.

Phil

Edited to add that I see the 997 Reg Sec has written the review on Amazon.
