997 GTS with LSD

Hi,

I'm looking for my first 911, and am ideally looking for a 997 GTS.

I've seen a car advertised that may be of interest. It's listed as having a limited slip differential, which isn't an option I'd ever considered. I believe it is LSD only rather than with the lowered suspension.

I'm more interested in B-roads than track days, so is a LSD a good / bad / no-difference option? Does is make any difference to PSM? Is it something that's likely to require increase maintenance?

Also, with the 997s is there an equivalent of the stickers on the 993s that listed all their option codes?

Thanks,

Stephen

Hi Stephen
The sticker is now attached in the service/owners manual and no longer under the bonnet.

Option 220 is the LSD (before anyone asks, it's a different thing (PTV) on the 997.2TT).

I think on the GTS you could get option package P17 which included 030 PASM (-20mm) plus 220 LSD.

Hi Stephen,

I don't have LSD on mine so can't really advise, however you might find this link to the GTS micro site of interest since it also includes the option codes

Porsche Stability Management (PSM) is an electronic control system using a range of functions, including anti-lock braking (ABS) to assist stabilise the vehicle.

Limited Slip Differential (LSD) is a mechanical component of the final drive that limits wheel spin, transferring power to the wheel with most traction. It is a plus point in slippery conditions allowing the vehicle to move forward rather than break traction and spin its wheels.
It works on friction between metal clutch plates. As the plates wear, the slip limiting factor is reduced and the LSD becomes less effective but it is not an item that is routinely serviced.

Regards,

Clive,
