997 Heated Seat backrest fault

Hi guys n gals, this is my first post and first Porsche so hello all ! I am loving the car but have one strange issue with drivers seat backrest not heating up at all. The base of my seat works fine, switch worls at one light and two lights.

I do have extended warranty and so far it's been to dealer, where they did a quick check but were unable to find a fault, just they want more time to diagnose fully. Is anyone familiar with the wiring or the big yellow block connectors, I'm confident in using a volt meter to test resistance etc but don't know the wiring so only want to prod if I know which connectors to check

Unfortunately even with the warranty I've been told I have to pay for the diagnose until they prove it's a faulty part eg heating element in which case it will be covered by warranty BUT if it's just loose connectors / bad earth / corroded connectors etc etc then I will have to pay !!! Does this sound correct?

Many thanks in advance for any advice and hope to make new friends here !

cheers
Hari

Wot a load of b**llocks. If the backrest does not heat up, what other proof do they need that something is wrong?

Harinder my friend, you need to change dealerships. I can recommend Swindon Porsche Centre.

It does seem to be common practice for them to say the bit about a cost to inspect to see if its warranty...
For the risk of it not being warranty and wanting the seat to work, I think you'd just say go ahead anyhow...

I'd agree with the above comments, but if you do want to delve around with a test meter the layout is as shown here. Sorry it isn't very clear, but if you would like the full sheet so that you can zoom in for the detail, drop me an email and I'll attach it to a reply.

Hi all, I must say I am really impressed with all replies and thank you ALL. I think you are right and I am going to tell Porsche Nottingham to go ahead. In all fairness they have been honest with me and fair, and advised me about an oil leak which they fixed under warranty. I'll just have to keep fingers crossed it is the actual heating element which I suspect needs replacing which is warranty covered. I will report back for you info on the outcome in the new year and THANKS AGAIN, fantastic to see a brilliant forum and club which I have joined. cheers Harry[:)]

Derek, strangely enough my car is originally from Porshe Swindon has all services there so far,I've just bought it ,I'm in Milton Keynes but often in Nottingham so this is where it will go for now
