Hopefully no need to panic but just noticed small oil patch (about 3inch in diameter with small one next too it) on the garage floor directly under the middle of the engine. Ive not used the car since saturday and only noticed it tonight but i guess the cud have been there for a while. Ive now placed paper ont he floor under the engine to see if there is any more leaking overnight but typically my warranty expired last week and im thinking RMS failure. This sound familiar to anyone? any need to take immediate action? time to panic? the patch isnt a flood just literally a patch. All advice/help appreciated

cars only done 24k miles from new and has only ever been serviced in the OPC network. Im hoping this will make the difference if RMS is the iissue

Get it in and look for the good will especially that close otthe warranty running out...

It could be various things, not necessarily the RMS
The RMS weeps firstly on the gearbox,engine joint so that the place to look.

It may be a simple seal or other..

tks gary, ive arranged for OPC Colchester to take a look at it saturday and they have already siad they wud take it up with Porsche for any issues so fingers crossed

Just to finish the story i visited OPC Colchester today and they couldnt explain the oil patch in the garage but did notice the RMS had a small leak. Service guy there pointed out that nothing to worry about and said in its current state there wud be no need to replace it if i was wearing the whole cost. He was aware that my warranty had expired last week and had already called Porsche before i arrived and negotiated an 80%-20% deal for me.
On that basis ill get it fixed for circa £120.
One other point was that RMS failure in his opinion is over hyped and not the huge problem some seem to think it is and also a very large percentage of of 911"S on the road will have RMS leakage without the owners being aware of it.
The service recieved by OPC Colchester was once again exceptional.

I think the dealer is very true in thinking the RMS is over hyped [;)]
But if its your car then I agree it would seem like the end of the world.

Nice to read you were looked after

Cheers Gary. the other real issue here is that its a design fault that shud be rectified totally free of charge. i know its not a safety issue but should Porsche be recalling all 996"S and early 997"S in the same way as other manufacturers wud even though its not a safety issue??

Other manufacturers wouldn't recall even on safety grounds;
Mini fires, Clio bonnet catches and not forgetting the K-series engines! etc. etc.
Porsche have changed the design of the RMS several times but without success. So they now have a new engine design, lets hope this one is better.
