997 oil levels concern

A frien has emailed the following concerns about his 997 on a European holiday recently. Is there anybody who can give some feedback please?
The 997 ran well but did give concern over the oil level reading. On a cold engine before we left I had a full reading, after two days driving ,i checked the level on warm engine which had rested for a few hours & had a 2/3rds reading. I was going to buy some oil but noticed the town had a OPC so called in. They checked it after a 15 min drive & got a full reading,& explained it might read more as the oil would expand when hot. So i bought some top up oil & departed .For this reason the 994 i had, should only ever have been 1/2 full when cold, but I can see nothing in the 997 handbook re this. .The car had a full service in Nov& is now showing 1/2 full cold, so looks as if used 1/2  in 6k miles. Wondered if you had noticed different readings? & if yours uses oil?.

TIA

I've done about 10,000 in mine and had to top up the oil once in that time when it showed about half full...car running a dream so maybe it's normal...............but what do I know, I'm only driver airframes I'm sure someone with more accurate knowledge will be on here soon

I would have expected similar in mine to be fair....especially after a european holiday [:D]

And also very sensitive to any slope when doing the measurement...........my Gen 1 car used about 1lt/1500 miles and was considered well within normal usage so your frien (sic) need not worry unduly (unless there is oil on the ground or blue smoke from the exhaust![;)]) I would suggest.

Thanks for the advice.

I was pro ted to check my own and food it to be in need of .8 litre. My consumption of oil has reduced dramatically since the car was new. It used to need about 1 litre every 1500 miles. Now it's about half that with 15000 miles on the clock.

As you'd expect on a new engine....[:)]
