997 reliability survey

Has anyone purchased an older 997,
say a four or five year old car
. Similarly, has anyone sold a car in the £30-40k range?
What are the reliability issues with these cars? At Total 911 we are drawing up a feature on the practicalities of a 30k 997purchase so feedback from owners with this kind of 997 background would be much appreciated.

Also, has anyone done a high mileage with the A91 yet? How is this (substantially different) engine behaving itself?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts/experience.

Excuse my lack of technical terminology but if the A91 is the DFI engine in the gen 2 car then I am at 25K miles!

Hi Kieron,

May as well post some info for you, I purchased my 05 plate 911 997 carrera 2 a year ago to the very day. The car has a full service history from Porsche, i purchased it from Kenny Dunn and as i was told would be in perfect condition, it was. Kenny as part of the sale decided that he wanted the clutch changed before i picked up the car as he thought the pedal was a little on the heavy side. roughly 28k on the clock (now somewhere near 33k on the clock)

I have had the coil packs changed as part of the warranty the kenny supplied with the car. Since then all i have had to do is a major service and replace the back tryes on the car.

The car has had no major problems and runs very well, its my daily runner so i need it to be well kept and looked after. its my first foray in to the porsche world and i have to say i love the car, the driveability and performance are better than expected.

I purchased the car probably at the best time when the recession had hit the hardest so the initial cost was 31.5k which for the milage and condition was very good at the time. infact since i purchased the car i am sure the cost to buy has now slightly increased.

all in all a very good purchase.

If it helps, had an early Gen1 from new, (Nov 04) with about 38k on the clock when I sold it a year ago (in the £30 -40k bracket). No major issues at all although the OPC said they would change the clutch before resale. I've now completed about 7k in the Gen 2, not a lot of miles but the performance and efficiency of the new engine is a step up again. No problems so far either.

I use my C2S every day and have 49k on the clock. It is an 05, bought main dealer a few months ago. Had a Clutch change under warranty and so far so good.

Not shouting - just emphasis. I'm very intrigued that an OPC might have changed a wear and tear item under the official warranty.

Only had the car for a few weeks and changed under the Used car warranty. They didnt want to, but told them to keep the car if they didnt and told them that the worn clutch should have shown on the pre-purchase check.

Hi guys,

I purchased a Gen 1 997C2S from an OPC back in 2008 with about 23k miles on it. I traded the car a year later, after putting 12k miles on it. The only item that needed attention was the exhaust, the baffles had gone in one exhaust bank.

I traded up to a new Gen 2 997C2S while Porsche where offering some discount. I've since put 15,000 miles on that car from new without it missing a beat. The car went back in to have the Sat Nav GPS aerial reconnected, that is the only maintenance required.

Hope this helps,
Mark

A pretty fair cop, I would say. Fitness for use and all that.

I bought an 05 C2S with 20k on the clock in December 2008 from an OPC. Pretty flawless - done 8000 miles since and the only problem (interestingly given the problems discussed above) was marked clutch judder within the first week of ownership. The clutch was replaced by the dealer and been fine since.

Sailed through service and first MOT. Front tyres look likely soon.

Oh how I love this car!

Ive had mine from new, Gen II c2s manual, its has 16.5k on the clock, no problems at all, apart from couple of rattles on really rough roads,

Drove it to Malaga a couple of months back, so in a week it covered 3.5k miles with 14 hours a day of driving , no problems at all, was very impressed

also clocked 29.9mpg for the entire journey which i thought was very good,
