997 S Damper replacement

Hi all,

I have been to Chris at CG with this and my previous 996 for many years but he is snowed at the moment until July.

I recently purchased my 997 C2 S and the handling really doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good as my well sorted and departed 996 3.4 that Chris had set up.

On a reasonably fast piece of dual carriageway or motorway it tracks straight with no wheel wobble but floats around so I am constantly switching between Sport Suspension and normal mode.

Chris said there was a 5% rebound rate difference (or something similar to that) between left and right rear which makes sense. It seems to have got worse though.

So my questions are as follows:-

- Near East London / West Essex (apart from a pricey OPC) who would you go to get them replaced?
- The front seem fine, but should you replace front and rear together or just give it a go on the rears first?
- On the S OE's are best part of £500 per side but Bilstein seem to be half that price. False economy? I guess if I did change to Bilstein then I would have to do the front as well so I don't mix OE and other make front and rear.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Many thanks....

Is that all round or can I mix OE front and Bils rear?

Is the ride different in any way to the OE's?

All round, I wouldn't mix them,

Ride is more controlled and comfortable, reminiscent of a gen 2 rather than a gen 1, which makes sense as the design is much newer.

Sport mode is actually usable should you choose which is more than I can say for the oem

You need to be aware that what you are experiencing is really the standard characteristics of the 997 Gen 1 ride, first time I drove one I thought the suspension was knackered, horrible in a straight line and great round corners.

Suggest a read through some of the forums to see what other people have done and how it feels post "upgrading"
