997 S Hard Top

Guest

New member
Afternoon Guys.
New member anxiously awaiting delivery of my 1st Porsche.
I've ordered a 997 S Cabriolet. However, in all the excitment I never even considered ordering the hard top.
I've now been informed it's 3months delivery & the best part of £3k for the pleasure.
Have anybody got any good ideas regarding getting hold of one quickly.
Artic Silver finish.

Cheers
Steve

Hi

Why dont you see if your OPC have another cab coming in without a hardtop. If you can negotiate with the purchaser his/her car could be delivered with the hard top which could then be switched on delivery.

I have had 2 996 cabs with hard tops and decided that it was not worth paynig the extra for a top that spent most of its life suspended from my ceiling. My previous cars came with a standard hard top.

I have and electric hoist specicially designed for the cab hardtop which I am considering selling. Retails for about £700. Are you interested and if so make me an offer.

Regards and enjoy the car.

Have you had a cab through the winter with/without hardtop?

My 997S cab is my first convertible Porsche and OPC advice was that due to improvements in refinement of the convertible there is increasingly less need for a hard top for the winter.

We also ran my wifes Mini convertible last winter and were the mad people who had the roof down perhaps half a dozen times through January and February. If I had a hard top for the winter for the 911 (which has less turbulence roof down than the Mini) then wouldn't be able to take advantage of those crisp sunny days in winter.

On that basis we decided not to opt for the hard top.

I've had 5 years of driving conv Porsche's and never once wished that I had a hard top - quite the reverse actually. On many sunny, crisp winter days, I was able to crank up the climate control and drop the hood. I would suggest a hardtop to anyone living in the mountains or who is concerned about getting the roof slashed, but for the average British winter, you don't need it.

Thanks guys for your comments.

I think I'll sit tight before I go investing in the Hard Top.
To be honest, it had nothing to do with noice or concerns over protecting the soft top.
It was purely because I think the lines on the 911 look better as a coupe.

Thanks again

Steve
