I parked my 944 next to a new 997 in the car park at lunch time the guy sat inside was eating suchi, I pointed to his car and gave him the thumbs up he just stared at me as if i was from Mars , i suppose we cant all love our cars some people only buy them to show of to the people next door !

I thought he might want to swop ! but i'd be gutted to let mine go to someone who eats their dinner in the car.

Oh dear [8|] I hope you never spot me greedily munching pastry products in my turbo [:D].

Although I do make sure that I don't leave any crumbs on the seats [:'(]

If all I owned was a 997 and it was a Saturday afternoon during the school holidays and I had the choice of eating a McDonalds inside or doing a drive through, I think I'd prefer to risk a bit of ketchup on the seats [;)]. Even if those seats were trick GT3 ones in alcantara - tasty.

Joking aside, some people just don't think of cars as being anything more than just cars, irrespective of cost/relative value, which is fine as long as I never have to buy a car from "that" sort of person.

As an extension to this type of thinking. In our Porsche club there are similar people, but it extends beyond this. 2 years ago my mechanic and friend won our club championships in his 1986 944 turbo. They hated this so much that they made all sort of behind the scenes complaints and snide remarks around us. Mostly about cheating of course as there is no way apart from pro-level scrutineering to tell just how much boost or what turbo etc you're using. He was using a stock turbo, in a stock Capacity car. He did have chips (whoohoo, who doesn't) and we were running dual port wastegates. That's it. We were equally sure that all was not what it appeared in the n/a world of 911'dom either. In other words what compression were they running and what capacity? What electronics? We had no way of telling this either. Anyway, we then went through our dark period of both trying unsuccessfully to modify our engines using the MID technology with both of us increasing our capacity which we disclosed. Without going into a long and torturous retelling of that story, we failed and gave up. Sean went back to a stock 2.5L from his 2.7L 'experiment' and I decided to continue to try and make a 3.L work as I had so many components for this. However they have never believed that he went back to a virtually stock 2.5L (+Vitesse maf and turbo) and have kept up their snide campaign against him. I recently bought another car as I found a bargain and therefore turned up to my first event in ages last Sunday (merely a motokhana) in a completely stock black 86 turbo. I had entered the car as such and was put in group 'D'. There is only one group lower being 'E'. So I got through a few of the courses and went to check my times and saw that it was printed out that I was in 'A' class. Hmm, must be a typo. So I suggested to the club captain that I wouldn't worry too much about it and just email them for it to be fixed up the next day. He sort of shrugged me off with "Well that's a start I guess". I didn't take much notice of his inflection and went on to point this out also to another club official and the one who put me in class 'D' where I should have been (power to weight). Anyway he said that in fact there had been a bit of a barney about this and I realised that they had talked about me and my car behind closed doors and came to the conclusion that I must be cheating and therefore put me up 4 groups into 'A'!!! Not only had they done this but nobody had the guts to actually tell me. This club is now really run by and for those with the 996, 997, Boxter S, GT3, and GT2's. Essentially nothing else really comes into their radar, unless they think they're being beaten by something else but talent. (This thought doesn't enter some of their power crazed minds either).
So what I intend to do is enter now under the associate class. (We allow members to race with us in non P cars although they're not eligible for the Champs) We have always felt like we're treated like associates and so I will declare myself one and the funny thing is that I kind of think that this will seem right to them!!
Sorry for the long winded story and to be honest it still gives me the $%#^^%$&&TS.
Ps I left before the last course at the M'Khana too as I felt that I was either going to hit someone or at least say something I would regret. Nobody has bothered to communicate with me from the club since and I wrote one of them a letter on Sunday night. I will probably be held in contempt. "How dare an associate write to us"[>:][>:][>:] Oh, and they never accepted Sean as going back to a stock 2.5L engine and he is now in Open R class. That is with essentially modifed 993tts, 997s and other cars on R-spec rubber and he's in his 2.5L car with a Vitesse turbo running about 14psi. They have made sure we can't win the title ever again. Nice club huh???

Unfortunately the 944T is very underated by many, or maybe not if the only way they can keep it down is by putting an almost standard car in with the top machinery. Put R spec rubber on it up the boost and take the fight to them!

Oh don't worry about that. They have no clue what is coming next season. From this little black stock 86 a beast shall emerge that will make them run to the hills and hide their heads in their hands....or something along those lines hehehe [:)][:)][:)]

There seems to be an attitude Ive noticed among the Porsche people... There appears to be 2 groups. Those that have 07/08 996/997/GT3 and those that have 924/944/968/ 80's 911's ... Not all but some in the first group see the people in the second group as "peasants" and look down their noses at them. These people are usually business type and its an image/status thing with them. Its a heres me and whos like me thing . Ive found that anybody in the second group are genuine enthuiasts and decent down to earth folk. This is a general observation I have made. You will find that the first group are not really enthusiasts and are not members of any club as such. I am a member of R27 who have all manner of Porsches from the latest to the oldest and the whole lot are a bunch of looneys .... ! Great Craic and lovely genuine folk. What you drive dosent matter to them.. What matters is You.

Here in Ireland there seems to be an arrogance among people ... "Look at Me" type attitude... This appears to have come as a result of "The Celtic Tiger". I have found if the Porsche is 06-08 theres no chance that the driver will entertain you (unless he is in R27 where such behaviour is frowned on...) and worse still if these type people get into any club and start "looking down their noses" at genuine enthusiasts then the club will suffer very badly as a result.......[]

Ive already said too much so I will just leave it at that... If you are in Ireland you will know exactly what I am talking about [:'(]

BTW .. This is only my opinion based on observations I have made of Irish Porsche Owners in the last 3 years [&:]

You're going to snap your chassis with all that power sir :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Paul the specs you see in my signature are still for my road car. The engine in the black 86 is going to make this one seem slow by comparison!!
What's happening with Lil?? We want answers!!!

Vanhire, I couldn't agree more. The only difference is that we have the same 2 groups within our club AND the ones in the first group are in power so we peasants as you put it have little chance to succeed. That is the driving force behind my ambitions on the track. To grind these clowns into the dust!!

That is exactly why I have left the club I used to be in ... because of them clowns... Since I have joined PCGB R27 the good times have come back...... My ex club is losing members fast and there is a breakaway group who are all friends and just do their own thing - meet up go for runs and enjoy their cars - no bulls**ters. My ex club also have no events planned as "The Peasants" all organised everything for them.....! They have to be asking themselves questions.....[:D]

You have my full backing 333pg333 .....! I have of a vision of your 944T s**ting all over them barstewards and throwing 3ft flames from the exhaust while doing it. Good always triumphs Evil...... An oval hot-rod racer years ago had an old XR4i Sierra ... He won everything going in the oval scene... They tried everything to disqualify him. Every event there were protests from other drivers that his car was "bent". They put weight in his car. They even stripped the engine only to find that 3 of the inlet valves were actually UNDERSIZE...... In other words he was a proper driver. Money is a poor substitute for talent.....[;)]

We have given a little thought to starting our own club but our emphasis is track time and it's hard to get bookings as we only have 2 tracks in Sydney which has a population of over 5 million so you can imagine not much time per club. In fact one of the 2 tracks is being developed for housing and while they have spoken about building another track, we aren't holding our collective breaths. [] This is going to make tracktime more expensive too, and the one track that is left will be able to hike up their fees to whatever they want within reason. Not a great situation.
So I will probably just stay in the club until such time as the car is finished, I've shown them my flame throwing tail, and driven off into the sunset to rescue some fair maiden. [:D]
Thanks for your support.
