997 Steering Rack

My car's steering rack has failed at 13,000 miles with the car being about 3.5 years old. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem at this mileage / age?

So a (twice) knackered steering rack, potential flat battery and nowhere to get the car serviced? Not your day, is it? [:D]

That's not all - I'm told I need one new tyre but have to buy them in pairs to ensure no uneven wear. Then I'm told they can't match the 2 existing ones as they're no longer obtainable, so I need to buy 4. Guess what my answer was !

Good start to the New Year eh ?

In the warranty survey (members area) it's showing 3 steering rack failures for various faults but between 20-32K

Whilst the car is showing low mileage that would indicate it spent a lot of time sat around, which could be seen as being as bad as high mileage failures for some items on the car.

Sadly we've heard the same all to often for about the tyres and needing 4 replacing but then again thats why Protyres are in business rather than the OPC [;)]
I do hope that they get the car sorted and not too much bashing of the wallet!!

I take it the car is under warranty? If not you could run different N rated tyres front and rear; I did on my old 997 with no problems.
