997 style update for 996

I was thinking last night about the arrival of the 997 and essentially its based around the 996 albeit tweaked up. I also remember seeing in Top Marques a company that takes you old SL merc and for about £15k will adapt it to look outwardly like the new SL. Personally I think you might as well buy a proper new SL merc.

However the cosmetic changes on the 997 seem to be the rear light clusters, rear wings, wing mirrors, front headlamps. Will it be a matter of time till the same company does a similiar service. For £15k it might actually be worth it... but I am not sure how badly the residuals of the would be effected.

Vorland, I think you hit the nail on the head in your first paragraph, I don't think it is worth spending large sums like £15k making an original Porsche look like an imitation, it may end being worth less !! As you say best to spend the 15k upgrading to a different "original" Porker with extra Pork !!!

Each 911 generation is a classic. I know that some owners like to try and update their cars, but I think they only devalue them.

Don't be tempted to butcher your 996!!!!!

The prototype I saw also had wider front wings, wider rear wings, different lights (with new front wings) and front grills - uneconomic, as you said. [&:]

Ian
