Hi all, thought I would take the car out for a run today, however when i pulled out onto the street and shifted from reverse to D, it didnt seem to want to go, then i revved it a bit and it got going ok, got on to a dual carriage way and it wouldnt shift out of 3rd gear! So came off at the next slip way and limped home in 3rd, stopped at lights and was still stuck in 3rd. Got home thankfully, put it back into neutral/park ok then tried reverse that's fine, then forward and same problem reluctance to engage gear. So put back in park and switched the car off. Any ideas - happened to any of you?

Honestly? It may be simple lack of use. If you've not used the car for a while, it's very likely to be recalcitrant in gear selection. Unless your run was a run of more than, say 20 miles, I reckon it'll show up again when you next want to go out in it. Depending on which way you were selecting the gears, it might be that it'll work fine in Auto rather than Manual or vice versa.
You need to take it out for a proper run to make sure the gearbox is warmed through fully, AND give it a bit of stick to work all the gears and the engine. Remember that oil is the primary engine cooler, and it doesn't warm up to operating temp (c100 deg) for at least 15 minutes, maybe longer in cooler weather.

Hi, You don't say whether or not you tried it in both manual and full auto mode. Also what age is the car, tiptronic boxes are very reliable but do need an oil and filter change after a period of time - it's not too expensive at an inde and probably worth a try it can often resolve problems!
Good luck.

Thank-you very much all, that's hugely helpful. Before Covid my 2005 997 CS was getting a good daily run and as you say it's just not getting as much use now. I tried manual and auto settings and it just wouldnt budge out of third, though strange that it was perfectly fine to go into park and reverse. No problem with reverse at all, just forward gears. Will get indy to change filter and oil, check cables and switch. Hopefully something comes up on the fault reader too.

Just an update - on start up the car doesn't move forward at all, but after running the engine for 10 minutes or so, then it moves. Feels like a lack of pressure in the box if that makes sense?
