997 track day at Bedford 5th March

Dear All,

My 997S arrives on 1st March and after careful consideration I have booked with the RMA at Bedford on Saturday 5th March (I should have covered 750 miles by then!!). I can't wait any longer.

Any other 997 owners want to meet up and take the cars round the track. RMA days are well organised (no racing) and I am going to be careful on the brakes/clutch/tyres. Engines will already be run in from the factory, just limiting the revs.
It would be good to meet up with other owners.

could not afford any more!

Sorry guys,

I bought my car to use. What better way to get used to the cars handling than in a controlled environment.

Bowlane,

You are 100% right and I'll see you at Bedford on the 5th, it's the 1st of 9 track days I have booked up to July. I can't sort out my late summer/autumn programme until the wife decided where and when we're going on hols.

If I tried to use the GT3's performance in Surrey it would be a one way ticket to jail via the front pages of the tabloids.

Regards

Kevin

I suppose that's why you come down to "my mannor" & tear up the roads round here when your not on track - bloody Porsche drivers[;)]

Where can I find details of RMA. What advice can anyone give on crash helmets? buy or hire; type to buy; things to watch out for. Keen to join you on the 5th, just building up the courage

You can find details of RMA at http://www.rma-limited.com/. They charge £125 for members and £175 for non members for the 5th March. It is an open pit day which means you can go out as much or as little as you want. Any motorbike hemet will do, you can borrow them on the day.
It would be nice to meet up with you all. You do not have to drive your car on the track. I would be happy to take any of you as passengers.

James

Dear All,

There's no charge for spectators, come along any and watch. If you decide you would like to be a passenger the charge would be £25, we can sort this out on the day.

James

Are there any issues with age limits. My two sons 12 & 9 want to come and see what goes on. Are they allowed in the car whilst on track?

Nick,

I believe the policy is no under 15s - I know this as I would like to take out
my 9 year old daughter on the track
They can watch though -- but It does get boring for them

Tim

I think you'll find that youngsters are also banned form the pit area.

Nick -pop down to GP Racewear in Chiswick (Power Road, and get an open face 'Clubmans' helmet and balaclava (to soak up the sweat!!)

A pair of good gloves will give you more grip and save the callouses and blisters!! [;)]

Thanks Mel, but is it worth trying the track day thing first. Hire the helmet, etc.

I have also checked the dreaded diary, and cannot make the 5th March. So I am looking at the 25th March instead (@ Bedford). Anyone here going on this one, I noticed a few of the GT3 guys are planning to be there?

Nick,

There is a few of the titanic boys going ,
Richard westbrook ( Carrera cup champion 2004 )
will be giving Instruction and I think 70% of the cars will be porsches
there will also be an Independent Porsche specialist who will give advice about tyre temperatures

cheers

tim
