Hi all,
Just moved from my 05 997 C2S to an 07 997TT Sport Chrono Tip today. Picked up from an indy and have a few questions issues that I hope you can shed some light on.
•Front fog lights not working. Looked in the fuse box but there wasn't a fuse indicated for front fogs in the leaflet
•Light switch set to HOME but when I lock / unlock the car the lights don't come on as they should
•In the Sport Chrono part of the PCM under individual options the DRL is set to yes but they don't operate
•Should side lights illuminate ALL leds? Only one outside on each side illuminates

I think the PCM has a big issue....
•Map DVD is 2004, is that correct?
•Shows NO sats found under status
•Shows incompatible software warning at the bottom briefly
•CANNOT change the time zone - this option is greyed out. Change the time on PCM (but that doesn't change the time on the dash). Showing GMT -3:44 wtf?
•On the dash display RADIO is not an option for the centre display - only phone

I have checked the sat nav gps antenna connection under the bonnet by the filter. This is secure. I have done a factory reset and the 148 option several times and also removed the PCM fuse for 10 mins all to no avail. I think the PCM / dash aren't really connected if that's possible.

The sat nav WILL look for a display a route but from the last known destination which is where I picked it up.

Also, there is no PCM manual. I have found one online but it doesn't contain the Sports Chrono option. Anyone know where I can download one?
Thanks in advance for your ideas and info.
Rob

Send the list to the independant as he needs to fix it all under warranty. The pcm2 is fcuk and should have a 997 set of discs not 996. Suggest you get an independant to check it over.

Sounds like the bumper has been repainted and they haven't plugged the lights back in properly but that's just an educated guess.

Gordon,

Agreed for sure... just wanted to get a feel for a couple of points.

Should the side lights illuminate all LEDs or just the outer for instance.

Does the HOME option on the lights illuminate the fogs, mains or sides?

Is the 2004 map disk the correct one that came with an 07 car?

From memory- and mine was on 06

The sidelight is just a single lamp to the outside.

Foglights were just fog lights, no DLR

as as mentioned its back to the dealer for them to fix.

The side lights are programmable, an indie can make them become running lights if you wsnt. Likewise the rest, home lights should be set to main or you won't get enough illumination for the 30 seconds when you get home..

The sat nav should be 2007 and you can update got a reasonable cost if it's genuine.

Thanks guys, what I thought.

From the PCM I had programmed the DLR & Home Function but nothing happens.

Mail being crafted as we speak.

Don't want to back it and hope it will get sorted!

Rob,

Sorry to hear of your woes but just in case you are still unsure of some answers to your questions, this is my experience with my current, standard, 2007 TT cabriolet....

"Should the side lights illuminate all LEDs or just the outer for instance."

My car just illuminates the outer lamp. "Does the HOME option on the lights illuminate the fogs, mains or sides?"

My car illuminates the fog lamps and the outer lamp of the side lights. The mains do not illuminate. "Is the 2004 map disk the correct one that came with an 07 car?"

My car came with a 2007 DVD titled PCM 2.1 DVD-Navigation Europe. It is dated 05.2007 and has part No 997.642.255.06

Reading through the PCM book, there only seems to be a short section that is relevant to the Sport Chrono package plus. On page 109 (Trip Computer), it mentions the trip computer "may also contain the Sport Display (Part of Sport Chrono package plus) that also includes a Stopwatch and buttons for dynamic driving settings" and page 112 and onward pages where it describes the "Sport Display (optional equipment)" and the extra functions that the stopwatch provides."

i have not tried the daylight running lights yet but as I understand it, the standard setting is for just the low beam to illuminate whenever the engine is running. I also heard that this behavior can be re-programmed using the Porsche PWIS diagnostic tool to use side lights instead.

If you have any more questions then feel free to PM me if you wish. Obviously you need to get your indie to sort these issues out but it helps if you understand what the correct behavior should be.

Steve.

Steve - perfect - the exact answers I needed - really appreciated.

I think the previous owner replaced a later disk with an old one - hence the incompatible software message. When I sold by 05 C2S I tried putting the original 2004 back in but got the same message. I had updated the SW & disk so once done - not backwards compatible.

Appreciated.

If you're looking for DRLs like the Gen 2 has (ie side light on the outer edge and the main bar of bright white lights changing to orange for the winker) you'll need to buy the Agency Power upgrades from PorscheShop in Halesowen (I know as mine has this very upgrade and I have the receipt in the history file) PM me if you want more details.

As for the Satnav upgrade I'd be interested in how you get on with that. Mine is a bit different as it has PCM3, being one of the last of the Gen 1 Turbos, but I've been quoted £500 at my OPC to get it upgraded to 7 digit postcode etc. Apparently they were doing the upgrade for £140 ish at the end of last year.

If you get a deal let me know!

Good luck with the new car

Jon

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the heads up..... I did see a photo somewhere you have made the move to a TT, white if I remember? Hows it going?

Re the DRL's, was initially trying to check the function of what I have against what it should be. It seems the side lights should only be the single outer ones which is working correctly. However, I have programmed the DRL's to be active but these fail to work.

Good to know about the Agency Power option though, looks good!

Re the Sat Nav, as I said above the disk in the car is 2004 so I think the previous owner has replaced the 2007 disk with a 2004 for some reason. I upgraded from 2004 to 2007 disk on my 05 C2S and when I sold it I planned to keep the later disk and return the 2004 original to the car but I got the same error I have now, 'incompatible software', so put the newer one back in.

Its up to the dealer to get these things sorted before I start to think about lights and upgraded sat navs. On the subject of sat navs and updates, Porsche have an appalling history of not having the latest map software available and to charge for a software update is pretty poor. Charge for a disk or labour ...but..... Not much different to computer and phone software updates in essence.

Thanks for the heads up and maybe see you in a couple of weeks?

Not entirely correct as the upgrade has to be done in various stages and can take a technician up to 5 hours to complete - it sometimes fails too and has to be re-run.

The upgrade process is described in the technical section of this forum.

Clive.

Hi Clive,

Noted and maybe appalling was the wrong word but when I speak from experience of upgrading my PCM1 disk on my 996 they were only available from Porsche (they wouldn't licence anyone else to sell disks) and I paid a fortune to update my disk to the newest - which was actually 2-3 years out of date if memory serves me correctly. Similar with my PCM 2 on my 997, very expensive disk at £275 ... That did give me a small s/w update with partial postcode. That took about 20 mins to update. Porsche is no doubt a premium brand, deservedly so, but s/w updates should be free (i.e. - I will pay for the disk and do it myself and pay the labour rate which isnt 5 hrs continuous work) as they are with PC's, phones etc.... Keeping the brand up to date etc. Even done for free as part of the regular services - keep people in brand. Anyway, just speaking from personal experience and all the research i did previously. Back on topic .... still waiting for the dealer to call me back to get all the items fixed. Thanks for everyones advice.
