997 TT oil leaks

My 997 turbo has been in all week getting two oil leaks sorted (@3000 miles and long story why it has taken 5 days to fix) - one is the pipework going to oil scavenger pump and another is the variocam plus.
Obviously not impressed with this but then I have been told that they want to do an extended test drive 80-100 miles given that the engine has been dropped out. Is it normal to require such a long test drive as I'm even less impressed that someone else is driving around in my car 'testing' it? []
Loan car is a Cayman S which handles beautifully (better steering than 997) although not worth the extra over Boxster.

Hi Shane
Sorry to hear of your oil leaks. When and how did you first notice these? Were there pools of oil beneath the car or what?
Regards,
Clive

I'd rather they did the extended test drive over the 80- 100 miles rather than giving it back to me and it still leaking....
I don't see a problem with that, I'm keen to hear that they want it fixed rather than in, out and who gives a monkey...
However Five days.[:'(]. mind you it took my OPC three days to fit a door handle [&:].
I've covered 3500 miles and no signs of leaks I'm pleased to say..

Hopefully Shane the outcome will be a good one along with a nice full tank of petrol on its return [:)]

Thanks, yes oil on the garage floor - not too much but not so good to have any oil leaks and this was the third visit to get it sorted.
Got the car back today (with full tank) and it is driving as beautifully as ever. They showed what had to be taken apart so it sounds like a reasonably big job.
I've been offered the chance to buy the Alfa 8C Competizione (only 40 coming to UK) so I think the 911 will be going next year.

Stunning car....

Pleased they now have it sorted, at least you can fully enjoy the motor until its time to pick up the 8C [8D]

Hi Shane

Might be too soon to spot patterns but did you get any sense from OPC as to whether your engine leaks were purely a one-off problem or has it been seen before sort of thing on this model?

The Turbo engine has been around in various forms for a while (GT1 block).
It so far has proved reliable and hasn't suffered the oil leak and RMS issues of other engines.
I'd hope and suggest it was a one off issue.

This was the first one they have had with these sort of leaks, in fact the OPC commented that they don't see 997 TTs in the service bay very often at all. Glad to say the garage floor is still oil free and the car is driving fantastic.
