997 TT - sport mode

Is it my imagination or does the sport mode on the 997 Turbo make the exhaust note very slightly harder edged at idle or low speeds. I've noticed by toggling between sport on and off at idle does change the noise slightly and its even more noticeable when the car is cold. Is there a technical explanation as I thought there was no bypass valve trickery on the turbo.

By the way, mine now run in with 2000mls, doing 20 mpg, used 1 litre of oil and 3rd gear is still hit n miss (its a manual with short shifter). It has also a tiny oil leak started and all the front lights fog up inside when it is damp (including the LEDs) which is kind of disappointing. The bridgestone tyres are so-so in wet. Even with all that, I wouldn't have anything else as it is a stunning car.

What car did you have before ??

RE noise difference, i can only assume it's similar to the 997GT3/RS, whereby pushing the sport button, opens a valve
that reduces back pressure in the exhaust, which give more power and noise....

Surprised about light problem, and will be looking out for the RS when it comes, and an Oil leak ???, that's not good
at all[]

Straight back to the stealer i think.....

Have just checked the noise levels with the sport button on/off, but can't say that I can detect a difference? Mine has done 1500 miles and the average now at 18.5mpg, but the normal commute run turns out 21mpg. The average was 22 but dropped after a few laps at Oulton [;)]
Lamps are fine with no condensate, and have had a 'moment' on boost in the wet - interestingly enough mine arrived on Michelins as did my old 997S.
I'd be naffed off it leaked oil though[&:]
Cheers

I've been watching to see what tyres others have had with their cars, mine came with bridgestones.. so far they have been OK
No damp or oil to report as yet, only picked it up last weekend from the factory and drove it back.. 900 miles. It returned 22 mpg (I obviously wasn't trying hard enough[;)])
The sport mode when given time really is quite obvious against the normal settings of the car. I did quite a few motorway miles and there was nothing to beat it. I'm still stunned how much better it is than my previous 996

Graham, we had a excellent time.
The trip was really well organised and they looked after us really well..
We took an early flight and had a whole day in Stuttgart, visited the mercedes museum, which really shows up the Porsche one at the moment. Hopefully the new museum being built will represent the marque correctly.
We made our own entertainment on the way home [;)] and had two lucky escapes... Four countries in four days [:D]

Sadly today with this thread in mind I sat pressing the sport button... and Yes the idle revs/noise does change, although not in the way of exhaust valves etc..

Mine came on Michelins (Oct build). They are superb on both surfaces IMO. No condensation problems or oil leaks. Mileage approx 21 pg but only done 1600 miles so far - this includes 8 laps the Nordschliefe!

I only did the one lap whilst I was there.... Public saturday and there were about ten cars there, didn't see another car during the whole lap, saw one biker who was on his side...[]
After one lap it was obvious why no one else was on it... It was like a skating rink...

Cool at least I'm not imagining the change in sound with sport on! I've noticed with it on the thresholds for PSM and ABS are raised quite a bit as the car gets a bit wayward before electronic intervention - I have sport on most times except in start/stop traffic.

Confirmed, mines definately got a different deeper sound with sports mode on in idle.

July build, Michelin tyres.
