997 TT starting issue...

Hi All
Recently my turbo has begun to have some starting issues...battery is all good(is on trickle charge) just wont turn over just a single 'click' seems as tho if I wait 5-10 mins turn the key few times it then fires up. Any ideas at all? Reading few internet postings some people talk of a cable that runs between the alternator and starter motor that corrodes on 997's?
Any advice as always appreciated.

Ben,
It could be any one of a number of issues including poor/corroded electrical connection, bad earth, faulty battery (it's possible for it to supply current but fail under load), faulty starter, faulty clutch switch etc. etc.
As you can see it's not easy to diagnose from afar.
I'd start with checking the connections, ideally use a multi-meter. Then get the battery tested under load, then the clutch switch, then starter motor. Hopefully that will solve the problem. If not I would get your OPC or a good Indy onto it.
Good luck.

I had my starter replaced with a similar fault, that and very slow turn over.. which could also have been the cable you've heard about- but was in fact a faulty starter motor..
All the faults listed could be/cause the issue

I had a similar problem to the one you describe on my Gen 1 997C2S last year. I took it to my OPC, thinking it was the battery but they informed me it was the cable you describe from the altenator. They changed the cable free of charge under waranty and told me it was a recongised "fault/issue" and the car has been fine since. The battery did not need changing.
Worth getting checked out though as it could be a number of root causes.
