997 Turbo 1 v Turbo 2

I remember when the 997.2 Turbo was announced there were long conversations on the forum that the new engine would not be as reliable as the old lump. Any verdict so far or the jury is still out? any teething problems reported?

I am wondering if I should change my 2008TT for the "Turbo S" with PDK... Is it really worth swallowing a massive depreciation (is the new Turbo announced for 2011?). The new GT2 looks awesome as well...

All thoughts welcomed,
Francois

Running as sweet as can be after 3700 miles. Not used one drop of oil as far as I can tell. I think it will be more reliable than the "old lump" - no RMS problems, different design and manufacturer of rads - but time will tell. I don't think you will see the 991 turbo much this side of 2013. If I were you and I could, I would![;)]

I think the new 3.8 Turbo looks very interesting, for many reasons, and each new Porsche model is almost always a useful step forward from its predecessor.

Traditionalists might prefer the old engine, but I'm sure the new one is going to be a real gem, especially in conjunction with PDK. But, there are also impressive improvements in the chassis and driver involvement.

Turbo makes sense if you want a fairly standard spec, but 'S' must be the one to go for if you want all the toys. Although I haven't read a road test on the 'S' yet. Obviously the Gen 1 model is a lot better value, so it all depends how deep your pockets are [;)]

I believe the next generation 911 is due in 2011 for 2012 MY, so next Turbo and GT3 would probably be 2013?

Nice test here

No doubt others will follow.

It is to be or not to be, that is the question... If I trade in my 2008 Turbo I look at E60,000 depreciation, or close to 5 euro per Km... Makes you think if it is worth to have the pdk and a bit more technology. Stick to my manual and by some goodies?

Is it worth buying the extended warranty? the time is coming for decisions
