997 Turbo/GT2 question: side air intake noise?

Recently I have noticed the air intakes behind the side doors start making a distinct sucking air noise as I accelerate hard. I am wondering if this is just because of the cold weather?

Anyone else noticed this?

Perhaps they need cleaning out?

I cannot remember the exact figure I read in a magazine the amount of air that runs thro the turbo but its lots, I am sure a techie will respond soon.

Don't think you have anything to be concerned about, thats what the side scoops are for [:D]

Thanks for the feedback guys. I might see if I can get a small bullet camera up into the intake to see if there could be anything restricting air, just in case...

Alex

Could be the denser air.

Your right to check if its a blockage, one to watch for is the rubber hose joints, gradually become soft under hard use and then collapse if the throttle is pushed hard, restricting airflow. You'd' notice a bigger hesitation before the power kicks in (just had the standard OEM hoses changed on my induction system for that reason).

While mine isn't a turbo with the custom induction system I have you can hear it suck air in when I floor the throttle, in the colder weather it has become more noticable......

If you went for a custom induction system get Parr/ whoever did it for you to check it rather than the OPC.

Good luck

So that's what it is! I always thought that sound came from the passenger side.

First time I drove the turbo I loved all the sucking/whistling etc that was going on a foot or so behind me! Haven't got any small furry mammals or feathered friends sucked in there Alex?[;)]

When out with friend on a blatt, they used to comment you could hear the car sucking in small children and trees!!! [&:]

As I posted earlier, with the roof down or windows open it does make a great noise- more so than the exhaust.. mind you people have commented the sound from the exhaust is great, just that from the inside we never get to hear it [] but thats part of the charm of the Porsche for me- not too much noise [:)]
