Ooops saw this was already spotted here:

Yes,

He is going to have his work cut out with this because the performance is right up his street.

Wonder what the Stig will make of it ? fastest time around the track ?

Nice presentation. I noticed a few things.

I wonder why the hollow spokes have been dropped?
The newer ones look to me like they would be easier to make. So if they are as good, then why not use them before?
Perhaps the hoolow spokes can't be stretched to 19 inches.

It is interesting that you can have an LSD with the manual.

Standard tyres are 305's at the rear, not the 295 thats were used on the cars in the magazines.

I've looked at the 996 X50 power graph.
The variable turbine geometry is binging in the same torque (620Nm) 1100 rpm lower. Over 3100 rpm, the torque is the same up to 5000rpm.
I guess the extra power, 480bhp instead of 450bhp, comes because the torque drops off a little slower.
Since the weight is the same, then I'll be radical and say that in a straight line, without pressing the overboost button, it'll drive pretty much the same as a 996. Generally I keep the revs at 3000 or above when driving, so pickup would be quite similar. Perhaps the lag will be a little less, but I don't know if you'd notice.
I reckon you'll notice it most with 2000rpm and then flooring it.
The overboost is interesting, although I'd want it to be available everytime I pressed the pedal, so it'll be annoying if you have to keep pressing a button. An extra 13% more torque is nice to have though, and I guess this will be noticeable.

In the wet you may be able to behave a bit more like a hooligan due to the PTM, but with a 100K car that is quite big, it is hard psychologically to go too sideways round your average roundabout.

With the PASM, then don't you want the sharp throttle response all the time?
I can't quite understand why I want to be pressing buttons. I want the same performance, and I want all of it all the time, so I know what to expect. Maybe I'm just a luddite.
As for the damping, then if PASM is engaged all the time, why not just have conventional dampers with the firmer response and save the electronic? Maybe a PASM 997 owner can enlighten me.

I'd have the height adjustable suspension so you can have it low when driving about, but raise to get into pertrol stations, car parks, etc.

Is it just me, or do you like white dials? I can't see anything wrong with black dials, white numbers and red needles.

Anyway, I'm sure it will be marvellous, so good luck to whoever gets the first one.

Those Can-Am cars are fast.[:)]

White dials in my opinion are an ergonomic disaster. In daylight when you may use your lights (eg light rain) the illumination renders the script unreadable. An absolute triumph of marketing over engineering. What indeed is wrong with white letters, black dials and red needles?

I'm not over the moon about the 997 interior - all angular and fake titanium plastic and the ghastly steering wheel. I like the 996 interior with my blue seat belts, seat backs and centre console and metropole blue elsewhere. Georg Kacher in Car said pity about the interior and I think he was right. As for the dials, I agree, black is best. I had silver in a C4S, not good. It's all a little too ritzy.

not coming back to the AM forum, or is this another blue we are hearing from over there?[;)]
