997 turbo sports-mode and exhaust-sound

Yesterday whilst parking my 997 turbo I was pleased to hear a more sporty exhaust note, and a little concerned that it sounded different to normal. Before turning the engine off I switched off sports mode and the exhaust sound changed back to the more usual dull average euro-box sound. Its a bit embarrassing to discover this after over a year of ownership, but there may be other owners out there who are also unaware of how to make their cars sound more like a 911 should. I'll be using sports mode more often, especially when in town :)

You mean like this:

(I need to do some more when I get the time)

That's nice. I'll be getting a Cargraphic exhaust when the warranty runs out.

I hate to say it but my 993 sounds much better than my 997, by virtue of its Cargraphic exhaust and raw air-cooled sound. Very big grin factor!

Yup, the difference is massive [:D] ...less lag too

I only have the medium loudness CG exhaust but Tom said it was physically hurting his ears when we went through a Swiss tunnel with him following me.

The 2nd most important thing to change on a 997TT IMHO...

I also have had my Turbo just over a year but have not noticed any change in exhaust note in Sport mode!!

Is this a fact? My exhaust is OEM and I haven't seen anything in the handbook about this although I am aware that some sports exhausts in the 911 range do open a port somewhere to give a sporty note with better performance.

Thanks, I will do this first thing tomorrow, almost tempted to do it now but don't have the time!

Thanks Ian

The note certainly does change, all I need to do now is con someone to record it when I zoom past them twice for a comparison!

I feel really dumb not knowing this or even noticing it!
