997 'upgrade' !

For 997's with a manual gearbox, an 'upgrade' is now available. I had a call from my local OPC on Friday, and have been-in already as it doesn't take long.

It would seem that the gearbox cable can become kinked on entry to the 'box, making it difficult to engage a gear (first on mine) and in theory premature wear. The upgrade is to straighten the cable and fit a retaining bracket. I asked the guys to take before and after pics which I'll post here as soon as...

There isn't a recall as it's not a safety issue, but like the creaking suspension it may effect some cars.

You heard it here first ! (I hope!)

Sounds like my car has the same problem with selecting first. I'll be calling my OPC tomorrow. Thanks for letting us know.

Just collected mine today as been away, and it is a noticeable improvement, even on the frosty morning start. Well worth having-done. Still no pics but the workshop campaign states this affects all 2005 model year up-to 2006, and then refers to chassis numbers on a 'dealer notication list' of which I don't have a copy ![&:]

Is that to say all cars built in 2005 ? Mine is a 2006 model year car, built late July.

Haven't noticed any issues with the gear change to date.

Did they do the modification while you waited for the car or did you have to leave it with them for the day?

Paul

Hi Paul, they can do it while you wait, takes 30-60 minutes apparently. I left mine as I went away on business. Probably best give them a call quote your chassis number and they'll be able to look-up if you need to come down...

Yves, welcome to the club and the 997 register ! I doubt that such a new car will need the work, but you can always ring the service manager and check. Drop me a line at 997@porscheclubgb.com and I'll forward a registration form and welcome letter since I've not had your details from the club office yet...

My February 2005 manufactured car did not need this mod. But it does need campaign number W556, which is replacing front lid catch securing screws with a different type? Task takes 0.06 hr! about 3.6 minutes. Talk about time and motion.
