997 Warranty advice please.

This is my first post on the 997 forum, so I hope it's in the appropriate place! I'm looking for some advice on warranties.

My 2005 997 Carrera S warranty, which had been renewed twice, expired last week. I took it into my local OPC (Leeds) to have the 111 point check done prior to buying the new style/new price extended warranty for another year. My car is now on 67,000 miles.
However, whereas I considered my car to be in A1 condition (with the exception of one of the horns which had packed up - fixed under warranty), I was told that before they would sell me the warranty, they considered that it should have a new clutch fitted, new front discs,
new front pads, and have the Road Angel disconnected! Cost approx. £2,300 plus the £1,350 warranty.

I was a bit shocked at this as in my opinion, the cluct is fine, the front discs are not pitted/scored, and the pads still have plenty of meat visible, and of course none of these items are covered by the new warranty!! I couldn't justify this (in my opinion) unnecessary expense, so I paid the £150 for the check, and drove home without the warranty. I have to say the service manager was very reasonable about it all, and tended to agree with me that the new Porsche warranty is in danger of being counter productive, in that there will be other private owners like me who will now be moving to an independent warranty, and into the independent specialist sector for servicing.

I do of course appreciate that there isn't another warranty to match the genuine Porsche one, but does anyone out there have a recommendation for a suitable warranty that doesn't have an unrealistically low claim limit? I'd value your advice.

Thanks in advance.

welcome,Tim
i ,like you have gone independent.
Having bought my car new in 2006 from my OPC and mentioned several times over the next year about a stiff transmission, and been assured it was NOT a problem, they eventually agreed it needed replacing but was wear and tear and not covered:-.as this was even before the pathetic 2 yr warranty ran out,i had no confidence in the warranty system so went immediately to JZ machhtech who replaced the part(for £600)and who have since serviced it(very satisfactorily too,) .i am about to take out their own warranty when it has its first Mot ,and oil change next monday,(at much reduced cost to opc warranty)
good luck,whichever way you go

Some options posted over in the 996 area...

Looking through the options there are a few main covers I came across:

- AA Warranty, this was what my previous dealer provided although never claimed under it, so not sure on how it fairs. Seems to cover all the main things you would want including air con and Turbo chargers (factory standard of course). It seems this can only be bought from a dealer who is signed up with them.
- Warranty Wise (www.warrantywise.co.uk), found this one on the Boxster forums and quotes extremely well on my 996TT of under £700. Haven't spoken to the company yet but don't think they will operate with this premium price and no excess.
- Autoprotect (www.autoprotect.net), seems to offer a good package under Premier Plus cover upto the value of £5k per claim. This doesn't cover the cost of a new engine, but am told rebuilds fit into this budget. They have been picking on certain claims, but I don't know anyone having a cover from these guys on a Porsche.
- WMS Warranty (www.wmswarranty.co.uk), similar to Autoprotect having no excess, £5k limit per claim, unlimited claims, and 2 day turnaround on payment of repairs so garages like that side of it. Policies cost just under £900 so fairly well priced, especially compared to the OPC one.
- JZM (www.jzmachtech.com), apparently these guys do their own warranty, admittedly not got round to calling them but will do so this weekend hopefully.

Tom, Tech 9 are almost there, delays wre down to FSA red tape which is now sorted. Give Phil a call for latest, he's very helpful, and you need a proper warranty with all your mods [:D].
