Hi Guys,

Just looking for some input on purchasing a 997. I currently have a 996 & I have started to look at a upgrade to the 997. Possibly going to look at 2 over the next month or so, one is a 2005 model with 45k & one is 2006 with 43k - both 3.8ltrs.

Obviously history, history & more history, but what else should I be looking for.

Cheers stu

history[:D] lol!! as always look for condition not mileage and as there are so many just make sure you get the spec you want-always better than trying to sort aftermarket addons(which also risk warranty invalidation) good luck dylan

Stu Of course it is all about the history. My 05 car has now done 70k so I'm guessing its in the vanguard of faults! The main non-service-related items are below. Of course a 997 that has done 45k may have only ever had one service (2 years, 24k mile intervals) so, stating the blinding ... don't go dew eyed over a FPSH record. Just before my ownership the car had a replacement clutch (and the RMS done at the same time) - £1,500 or so (done by an indie). During my time (just under a year), I've had to replace the coil packs (£300) and the water pump failed (no kettle jokes please) (£400). I'm reckoning that of that lot only the water pump would have been covered by a warranty. I'd agree with Dylan, in terms of the sales pitch you'll get, do do some research up front about exactly what was on the 3.8S; adverts may try to convince you that xenon lights are an extra, they weren't etc etc. Personally, I wasn't wedded to the spec I was looking for, I was more interested in the provenance of the car - yet I bought privately. I think partly because it was sold by a fellow PCGB member but more because the seller took his time to take me through loads of detail about the car (including a £20 bill for a wiper blade!). Have fun and good luck!
