After selling my 964 18 months ago I am now looking into buying another porsche. The wife wants a boxter but i want a 997s.The only worry is i have heard that the 997s suffers from engine troubles which can cost a lot of money to replace.I there real problem with these cars or is it a minor few that suffer problems?.There seams to be some real bargains out there at the moment with 54/55 plated cars.

A regular question! See this thread and the link in the second post. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=716986 I believe the issue is uncommon but care is needed when buying that age 997 - or any other car for that matter![;)]. Of course if you bought from a Porsche Centre it would come with 2 years warranty which is probably worth the extra you might pay in the purchase price.

There's an interesting article by Phil Raby in this month's GT Purely Porsche magazine that discusses some of the "perceived" risks with buying 996's or early 997's and hence why there are bargains around now. Agree with the points above - any car should be bought wisely, especially a specialist sports car.
