The author is Gavin Conway, who is a highly respected motoring journalist and knows his stuff.

Some not very pleasant remarks about Tiptronic (I thought DSG was imminent), but for those of you who have just bought a C2/C2S - apparently you made the right choice. Yet again, C4 is not a better car.
 
Will have to look into the trip meter thing.
Fuel tank is larger too which doesn't quite make sense, presumably boot size goes down +++?

Depends what you want from your 911, if the old 996 C2 vs C4 comparison still stands then a litttle bit of extra weight over the nose also tames the slightly bobbing nose effect that even the 997 C2 is prone to. Also as I plan to use my 987 C4s as a my main car the extra security on wet roads is worth an extra 5K to me...

Not according to Autocars take on the standard cars capabilities and I must say I test drove a 997 "S" for over an hour in the most attrocious wet weather and although I drove the demo far harder than I would my own car the handling and grip on offer was far greater than my limited talents would have ever needed so had I gone the 997 route the standard car would have been more than adequate for most mortals IMO

Can't deny the laws of physics. If you have two driven wheels and one hits black ice then you have a rotational force with no balancing force. Same scenario in 4wd and the additional rotational force of the opposite wheel to the spinning one is balanced by the two front driven wheels. Electonics, PASM etc will admittedly reduce the effects on the 2wd car, by braking the opposite wheel, but you are thus relying on the electronics to keep you out of the hedge rather than the basic stability of the drive system. In reality a tiny difference probably, but that piece of mind, however irrational, is worth 5k to me. I would guess its worth it (along with the wide bum looks) to a lot of other people, otherwise Porsche wouldn't have pitched the price difference at 5K (i guess the extra parts are probably say 1K)...
