997OIL CHANGE

DSM

New member
Now 6 months old, 3K miles, was thinking I would change the oil, whether necessary or not - shouldn't do any harm.

Any things to look out for? I plan to measure what comes out and put exactly the same back in. Any torque figures for the sump plug / filter?

Any comments appreciated.

I had the oil and filter changed on my C2S at a similar mileage, and again at circa 9k.

Remember to have a little oil added to the filter chamber before refitting. The drained oil was not measured (sounds like a good idea) but I think around 8 litres was added, the engine run, measurement taken after 20 minutes and then a further 0.5 litres added in stages. I have been told that care should be taken to avoid overfilling so if the gauge is only one bar down add no more than 0.2 litres.

Thanks Allan.

The measuring thing is a trick I learned when I had a dry sumped Formula Renault single seater in the garage, which my son raced and I paid for! We changed the oil near enough every meeting and it is always tricky to a) get all the oil out and b) to measure the level, which was done 5 minutes after switching off when hot, but always changed. We used to suck out from the tank into a calibrated container and then put back in the same amount! Works a treat!

Anyone any ideas on torque settings etc?
