997Recal

I did a search on that forum and found this

Or here is the text

"From a 997 owner

"I had a letter from my OPC waiting for me when I got home last night, this is the main text.

"Through regular quality inspections at Porsche AG, it has been identified that there is a possibility that the engine in your vehicle has been installed with the incorrectly machined crankcase. Due to a machining error, the intermediate shaft may not sit in the designed position in the crankcase.

To determine whether this fault exists in your vehicle, the engine must be checked and depending on the result, it may be necessary to install an additional spacer to the intermediate shaft bearing cover."

Any comments/additional info from 997 owners?

I think with my reputation with OPC's I would be the last on their list they would write too. This letter would be extremely concerning to receive, even if you did know what they talking about.
Maybe they are able to identify specific cars where this issue applies, rather than the first 100 or so shipped since launch. I not sure how car manufacturers operate recalls, does anyone know?

Tim, Nick,

I am only quoting what was I think the originally intended target for the link. I certainly do not possess a 997 and probably won't for a few years yet. I only purchased my now 17 year old 3.2 Targa a year ago.

Rgds,

Kevin

This may or may not be connected, but I have been unable to secure a demonstration in the local 997S demo as it has just had to have a new motor installed...[]

Due to a machining error, the intermediate shaft may not sit in the designed position in the crankcase. ........................leading to consequent failure of the RMS?????

My stepfather used to work at Ford, there were a lot of rumours about particular shifts, mainly the night one!! Just to worry you a bit more.

Region 5 were at their OPC on Wed night - service tech said they have recalled 14 of their cars (997 and 987), of which 4 required attention. They fit a shim near the main bearing but that as far as i could get.

The same guy said when they do an RMS chnage they never fail again - four boxsters were raised on the ramps, three had rms failure. Only one 996 up on the ramps had rms failure, rest were dry
