997S ECU re-maps ... 380bhp and 425Nm torque?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had their 997 ECU re-mapped to increase the power output?

On some other forums people have been considering Superchips or DMS. The DMS chip for example cost £850+VAT and apparently gives you an extra 24bhp and 20 lb/ft torque on a 997S.

Obviously there are the concerns regarding such modifications invalidating the warrantee, but the chipping companies seem to go to great lengths to make the changes invisible to Porsche when the car goes in for servicing etc.

From my (limited) understanding the re-map basically frees up some of the power that Porsche deliberately puts in reserve which could potentially stress other components in the car, thus decreasing the amount of warrantee service work they would otherwise have to perform.

The official Porsche Powerkit replaces a lot of components to get its extra 26bhp, I'm sure a lot of this is to justify the huge £££ of the option, but the rest to make sure the affected components are more resilient.

I am in very much 2 minds about doing such un-approved upgrades to my currently "˜pure' Porsche, however I would say that below 5500rpm I am extremely disappointed with the acceleration of my Carrera S, something which a DMS chip would go a little way to rectify.

Your views would be welcome"¦

Many thanks,

-Alex

Personally, i would never rely on any modification going undetected, either by Porsche in the event of a warranty claim, or by the insurance company if it's damaged or stolen. The cost of your chip could end up being a lot more than 850 quid (ie. 75k !). If you're disappointed by the (lack of) power, then stick your name down for a turbo cab... 'tho i admit it'll be a long wait!

Oh I agree, I think I would need a lot of persuasion to go off the Porsche track, but doesn't stop me wondering what if [8D]

That's a BIG price jump too! Getting into F430/Gallardo territory there...

Thanks for your comments Nick, much appreciated [:D]

The local OPC has regular visits from DMS to upgrade customer cars in batches.

Therefore, that must go some way to prove that Porsche UK are facilitating the upgrade, at least by billing the customer and adding their fair share.
