997S vs 996 GT3

Any views on whether one would wait for a 997S - waiting time a year or so - or go for
a 996 GT3 now?

Nice dilemma to be in, but very different cars.
One point though - in my experience over the last fifteen years of buying the occasional new 911, is that the quoted 6, 12, 18 month wait list, or whatever is the current one given, usually evaporates once your deposit is placed. This time around, for the 997S I was initially quoted delivery next Spring/Summer, and suddenly it's a November build...

[]Drive them both back to back and all will be revealed :p If you want to then go for a 997S a little bit of spade work will no doubt find you a car quicker than you may have realised ... Good luck either way its a fun project [;)]

If you read todays Autocar, first proper test of the 997 "S", you may not need to test drive the GT3 after all :ROFLMAO:

I popped into my local OPC the other day and they have a silver 996GT3 waiting for
someone to come up with the cash with another two to arrive and be available for November and December
if I recall correctly. A 997S would be available "November next year".

Currently drive a Mar02 996 Targa with less than 10k on the clock in perfect condition.
We only briefly discussed a part exchange for the GT3 but the opening offer for my car was way
below what they sell for on Porsche's approved used web-site.

If Porsche made a more realistic offer I could be interested in doing the part exchange.
However judging from what they're offering on my Targa it does seem the 996 does depreciate somewhat
and judging from the ready availability of the 996 GT3s I guess they probably would depreciate quite badly too.

I was a little surprised that in Autocar this week the 997S was slower (0-60, 0-100) than the 3.6 996 they tested in late 2001
