997S vs 996 TURBO vs 996GT2

Ok, here goes, friend of mine is stuck between buying a 997S a 996 Turbo and a 996GT2, all of which are currently around the same pricing. He's moving on from a 993 Turbo (S Spec) which his had for the last 8 or 9 years! (This will be up for sale very soon if anyones interested). He prefers the shape of the new 997, can't afford a 997 Turbo or GT3, but wonders if he'll miss the straight line performance of his 993 by choosing a 997S. Eventually, he'll have to test all 3 back to back, but kinda difficult finding a GT2 locally to test! Any first hand experience would be great on this!
Thanks,
Dan.

Not sure about the figures, but are you sure the 997s will be significantly slower than the 993Turbo ???

GT2 is called the 'widowmaker' for a reason......

Sidicks

PS - 997 4S has an even nicer shape..........

I think that your friend needs to decide what he wants to get out of another 911. Each of the cars that he is considering is aimed at a different driver - and the age, condition and mileage of any of these cars (given the same price) will be markedly different. As Simon says, the GT2 is a challenging car to drive - and many have a chequered history, particularly if their price seems low.

Can't comment regarding the GT2 which is a different beast all together, but a pal of mine has a 993 Turbo S and we have done track days together as well as cross-country and motorway trips. I also had a 993 previously. The performance is very similar but the 997S is so much more refined and easier to drive fast - especially in the wet. It might take the rawness out but at the end of the day I wouldn't go back!
