Hi all my build date is fast approaching

question is whats your opinion , anybody here got a tip 997TT ? i am really thinking the Tip is the way to go have a manual TT after 12 Mths of a Tip 996TT and the Tip on the new car is supposed to be so much better esp in sport mode , driven the manula 997TT it goes through the gears like stink but can be a bit of a pain if driven quickly , do 6 trackdays a year as well and was just 0.4 sec slower with the tip over the manual on the 2 tracks i have compared ! Pain is if they ever manage to sort a DSG which i am told is at least 2 years away on the 997TT then that would really give the best of both worlds :( The DSG at the mo cannot handle more than 390BHP at the flywheel on a 911 config is the info i was given so will they ever get it to handle 500 ??

For what it's worth, I've have had 5 x 911 Turbos, all manual until the last one a Tip 997 Turbo, ordered it because of the performance figures quoted but didn't like it at all, sold it after 6 days and less than 500 miles, always felt like the clutch was slipping and I didn't like the pause between me wanting to change gear and the gearbox deciding it would change. Next one will be a manual.

bloody hell did not even give the tip plates chance to bed in !! when did you take delivery of the 997 ?

Drove both manual and Tip on the driving experience day and the manual is much better, did not like the Tip at all even though it is marginally faster. A manual with short shifter is the way to go [:)]

I drove a C4S Tip recently at my Test Drive Plus porsche day, and after I got back into my C2S Manual I realized how MUCH FASTER my car was. I know the Turbo is different to the C4S for the Tiptronic but I really just didn't like it at all.

I must say that when I also drive the 997 Turbo manual it got through the gears VERY quickly and most of the time I ended up hitting the rev limiter and looking rather silly. I suppose it would just be a case of getting used to it though, you do get a flashing light warning you to change up which would probably help.

Personally, I am planning on waiting for the PDK to come out before I upgrade to the Turbo, and I think a lot of the market is doing the same - 2 years wait or not.

In the meantime here's a good thread on why the Tip is faster than the manual for the Turbo:

Took delivery at the end of June but was concerned that if I did too many miles might be more difficult to sell. Don't get me wrong Tip is clearly an excellent car it's just that the manual appears to give you the feeling of more control.

End of June ? wow must have been the 1st of the 1st OPC in the uk reported first car delivered in the UK on the 19 Th July , If you had 1 in June you must have made 20K over book !! On the sale
Which OPC did you get it from

Personally I would miss the 6 speed manual box. Previous tips left a big hole through the rev range, but maybe the improved torque in the new engine compensates for the lost ratio, but I've still ordered the manual with the sports shifter!
