Has any body here had the 9m heads fitted. Whats the experiance like, what do they feel like etc etc. Should I be tempted or should I just buy a Turbo.
Stephen.

I got them on my RS Clubsport ..... but I suspect you knew that already.

I'm away next week, so if you contact me when I get back I'll give you a list of a few customers with them on their 993's.

Simple answer - do it! I bought some bits from Colin at re-build time, but couldn't stretch to the heads. I'm really pleased with the results, but on seeing one of the cars with the heads pick up and go at the Oulton trackday I realised my mistake. It simply flew and I wish I had them on mine. It was John's car, IIRC, a dark blue one.

What do you dislike about the flywheel and clutch Maurice? I've gone the same route and love it. It was a bit of a nightmare until the car was mapped, but now it's great. There's a gentle vibration when standing that isn't all that intrusive, but the way the engine spins up makes it a route well worth going. I don't have any issues with stalling or anything like that. I'll let you have a look at mine next weekend.

Ah, sorry Maurice; now I follow. Mine suffered with stalling issues when the engine went back in. The car wouldn't idle and cut out every time I drew up to a standstill. It could also be made to stall if you suddenly took the load off the engine at anything over 3k, although that was less of a problem to work around. It went for mapping and all the problems ceased, but I do need to keep it ticking over for a minute or so when starting from cold.

It seems to be linked to the fuelling at low revs, although I'm prepared to be educated on that front. Fantastic addition to the car, though.

Yes I have the heads on my 993 nonvarioram, and it is awesome, lots and lots of lovely Torque (425nm), when we did the 0-60 runs at Elvington it was pulling 4.7s on the AX 22 data logger, and is simply awesome on the track and puts your licence in serious danger on the road.

On the circuit it keeps up with GT3's until you get into the higher rev range when I run out of puff at 6750 and the GT3's go on to 8000. In circuits with short sections between chicanes / or corners, the torque really kicks ass and you can haul most cars in.

Benefits over the Turbo, lighter and more responsive on the track, better driving feel on the track, very similar to the difference between a GT3 and a turbo on track (bearing in mind that i have a lot os suspension and brake upgrades on mine).

The turbo will hold its value better and is faster in a straight line.

The LWF issue is stalling as Maurice has said and Colin / Wayne has had it 3-4 times just to solve the stalling (software tweak) with no real difference. Mine is an early (1995) model and the ECU sometimes just can't catch the idle when the revs drop, Ok when cold and usually OK when hot but inbetween a real pig. still like the LWF for the awesome pick up, especially when combined with the torque, just having to live with stalling whilst it warms up.

Apparently, Everett, (ex AMD and now in Canada) has a software fix specifically for this issue.

yes colin has already tried to sell me motec (a number of times) still resisting colin!

Colin has had more than his fair share of trying to sort out the stalling on my car, I think the stalling still haunts him at night.

BTW it was stalling before the heads upgrade so not linked with this particular mod

I will drop Geoff a mail

Cheers for the top tip!

John
