9m engine seminar and dyno day

Just a quick post to say a big thanks to Maurice for organising the day today. I had a great time and it was a pleasure to meet everyone. I know from speaking to others that everyone else thoroughly enjoyed it too.

Colin and Marc were great hosts and having been a bit worried that the engine seminar would go straight over my head, I must say that Colin did a great job of explaining everything in laymans terms and I actually found it very interesting. In fact, he made it sound so simple I might start building engines myself [:D]

Anyway, I'm sure Maurice will be along soon with a more comprehensive write up, hopefully including a full list of all the figures from the dyno. As far as I know all of the results were good which must be a testament to the quality of 993 engines [:)]

Cheers,
Bryn.

I Fully concur with Bryn's post--it was a great day and I am thoroughly indebted to Colin, Paul and Mark for sorting out the varioram on my car--for those that missed it--the car now has 20 BHP more than it did this morning and this was tested again late on in the day!

The engine seminar was great and it certainly put a lot of the hype into context.

Many thanks to Maurice for organising the day and great to talk with other enthusiasts

Cheers

Steve[:)]

Oops sorry, completely forgot to say thanks to Paul too, even though I probably spoke to him more than anyone else [:D]

Cheers,
Bryn.

Indeed, many thanks to Colin, Marc and Paul for an excellent day. Hopefully a few 'Ninemeister virgins' [;)] will recognise the engineering excellence that exists in Warrington. As per usual, a complicated subject was explained with enthusiasm and at a level everyone could understand. It was good to see a lot of happy faces and the willingness to help out with problems is typical of the Company's attitude.

I did bid Marc ÂŁ10K plus my 993 for the lovely red GT3 Clubsport that was in the bodyshop. I thought it was a more than generous offer, but for some reason he gave me an answer worded in a way that only he could......... [:D]

Cheers chaps!

Yes. a great day and I would like to add my thanks to all concerned. I know my car has never seen 180mph before, and 3 times in the same morning !!!!!
Well worth the 422 mile round trip.
Peter
PS. Isn't the M6 lovely with nobody on it. I managed 3hrs each way, impossible during the week.
Peter

Ditto, thanks very much to Maurice for organising this and everyone at Ninemeister for such an interesting day.

Really brought to life all those terms you hear about engines but very quite understood.

Same as everyone else. A big thank you to Colin, Marc and Paul for well organised day and to Maurice for arranging the visit. Nice to know that my car doesn't run too badly. Well worth the long journey, a little further than Peter's, at 478 miles total and with lots of traffic on the M1 and M25 more like 4 hours going home

Question. Do Specs Cameras work at night?

A great day out. I will try and post a few photos later.

Michael

Hear, hear. Fantastic day out and a real eye opener for me having always taken the piecemeal approach to 'performance' modifications previously. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to Colin and Marc, it's obvious that they are both very enthusiastic and passionate about what they do. A big thanks to Maurice too for organising the event. What's the next seminar, suspension and handling perhaps?

Time to start saving,

G

Steve,

Do you know what they fixed in order to get the 20 BHP back? I had mine dynoed a few weeks ago, and it was developing 258 BHP. I found a disconnected vacuum hose which brought things up to 272, so I'm still shy of around 13 BHP. There were some other 993's there on the day it was tested and these were putting out the correct numbers, so the dyno was accurate.

Hi Darren

Two things--the problem mine had was in the rev range 5250 - 6500--where the varioram cuts in---the electrical connections to the actuator for the varioram--under the blower was disconnected and the vacuum hose on the right side of the engine bay was also not connected--the other possibilility was the resonance flap--mine was working ok but Collin originally thought that this might have bee the problem--hope this is helpful.

Regards

Steve

Great day out. Good turn out and nice to meet and get a chance to talk to you all. Good to meet the 9M folks as well as never been there before. What a passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgable bunch they are.

Having my rear tire blow out on the dyno was interesting (about 160MPH, you could see it on the dyno plot) []

Last car on the dyno too. I had picked up a nail or screw in the tire. Probably that morning at home as builders here at the moment. It was fine coming up the motorway so shows what a difference really high speed makes to the loads on a tire.

Colin kindly lent me a wheel to get home so I didn't have to use the space saver. Having a very different tire on one rear wheel meant interesting handling so cautious journey home but made it back. All in all a very interesting and eventful day.

Final thought is how consistent the dyno runs were across the cars. Low or high mileage didn't seem to make much difference. 10 or more years old and these cars certainly seem well engineered.

Ian.

What a great day and thanks to Maurice for setting it all up and thanks to Colin and Marc for all their time and effort on the day. Really good to see so many 993`s all at the same time and chat to a few people.

Really enjoyed Colin`s talk on our engines and getting the best from them, very interesting and informative.

I must admit I was initially a little apprehensive on putting my pride and joy on the rollers. Apart from a trip to the petrol station and the journey over to Warrington about 100 miles, I have not used it over the winter months. However, it was reassuring to know everything appears to be working ok.

Cheers MP for sorting this...
I actually managed to finally meet some other members, all previous attempts thwarted by work commitments. Joy.
Thanks to Colin for the wallet-slackening seminar, and Marc for giving me something to aim for in the shape of a 4.0l RSCup964. Well, I can dream can't I?
Bummer to see Ian's tyre pop on the dyno... but didn't it look nice on the splits?[;)]
Great to see so many well loved cars - inspired me to buy a cloth and some polish.
Can't wait for the next event.

And thanks to Paul for listening to my endless list of bits to do on my old bus.

What Fantastic day out.Well worth the long drive up and the weather was good too! The car needed a good long run. I managed to get 250 miles to half a tank, which was very Good for me! Great turn out too. Nice to meet others and get a chance to talk to you all. Thanks to Maurice for setting it all up and to Colin, Marc and Paul for all their time and effort on the day. They really made you feel welcome. Really enjoyed Colin`s talk on our engines and getting the best from them. Learnt more than I thought I would as it was explain well.
I was impressed with how well my car did as it is all standard with low mileage [:)] and equally how consistent the dyno runs were across all the cars.
Will try and post some pics later on this week if I get a chance!

Graham

Very interesting.

If you plot these in a graph, and ignore the obvious special cases, turbos, tyre slippage cases etc, there is quite a cluster around the 305 - 315 BHP range. Either we are all out there secretly tuning our cars with the same methods, or Colin's dyno calibration man is a spot generous (Paul said they have it calibated approx every 3 months).

Not that this matters at all - it's all relative - which is the big advantage of doing this sort of thing as a group.

Now what else can I measure on my car...
