A 2 day quickie in Wales!

Couldn't resist a run to central Wales for the last 2 days as the weather would/could/might/maybe hold up.

Planned to go in the 1973 911, but Mrs H said no, it will rain and it will get stolen, so went in the Boxster.
As it happens of course, it was sunny and no car was stolen.
Car ran beautifully and ate all the 300 miles of heat and light traffic with ease, even did 33.8 mpg.
One thing though.
It always brings it home to mind that the UK roads are just too busy for a sports car.
250 bhp is about 200 shy of being able to overtake before a car appears on the other side so you simply fall in line like a sheep and run even to 50 mph (and 33.8 mpg).

Just too dangerous to pass the 40 mph everywhere types who brake for every bend no matter the radius.

Never mind, it went well and MrsH was happy.

Nice pics - car looks great too

I understand your frustration with the UK roads, whilst we have some amazing roads and scenery, they're just spoilt by people who drive too slow/ aren't interested in "enjoying" the drive like we do.

33.8mpg is good on a round trip mate.
Demonstrates how much you've been stuck behind the sheep.

I have a 2.7 987 and mines on 27mpg after a couple of decent drives where I've been "let loose" :ROFLMAO:
Usually sit around the 31mpg mark

Head to North Wales, jump on the Ferry and come over to Ireland. You will find some virtually deserted roads to drive along in a spirited fashion and virtually no speed cameras to monitor your progress. I have been to Wales a few times, its an absolutely stunning place with glorious roads and scenery, but when the weather is fine it is just packed with visitors.

Ireland is on the radar.
Have talked about it several times and would personally like to go into southern Ireland.
Have been told the north coastal route is too well known now and roads are a bit rough, so the south, I hope, would be better.
Unknown place to us, so the wife needs a lot longer to study it (and hotels).
She is however, quite adverse to ferries.

We did the same with a 700+ mile blast, last weekend:

Friday: Wakefield to Holyhead via Woodhead Pass (wall to wall lorries!)
Saturday: Holyhead to St Clears via Port Merrion the coast road and Tenby
Sunday: back home via zig zag over the Brecon Beacons, Hay on Wye, Leominster and Ludlow

Weather was spot on for top down but made us realise the wind deflector needs some attention!

Had fun educating a deluded Harley rider who thought he could out drag us at lights. The pull on the Boxsters is something to behold. Dread to think how much quicker the 911s are. One day!

Feel your pain with the queues of traffic but managed to avoid it being hours of procession with the odd well judged overtake. Though Saturday afternoon wasn't too bad with Wales playing.

Really whetted the appetite for our first trip in such a great car to Scotland (7 day tour of pretty much the whole coastline) in Scotland. Will be our 10th trip to the far north, I believe.

Our only question at the moment is why we waited so long to join the Porsche party.

West Scotland planned for October [:)]

Ah cool us too - first week with an anti-clockwise circuit taking in most of NC500 and a good portion of the South West 300 as well.

We've usually been lucky with weather as well so should be epic in such a fun to drive set of wheels! Enjoy!
