A 981 Intermittent Christmas Tree

Hi Guys,

Picked up a 981 2.7 manual Boxster last week (with PCCGB sticker in the window) all great until on Friday night the dash lit up like a Christmas tree then turned off and rebooted, has being doing this intermittently ever since.

The faults I’ve had are :-

PSM Failure

Parking Break Failure

Steering Assist Failure

Auto Start Stop Failure

Drive to Garage

Slow to boot up on start up

Dash and clocks go dead before rebooting.

I’ve done my research so thinking maybe battery or coil packs, but it dosnt seem to be running roughly/misfiring & also battery voltage is good and starts up first time every time.

Tips appreciated before I go to the main dealer or independen.

Thankyou!

I had wondered about water ingress, when I vacuumed the car I noticed what looked like a water mark on the carpet behind the passenger seat and a silica gel bag…… [8|][:(]

Sounds like you need to take it straight back to the dealer where you bought it from as as you say you only picked it up last week.

Unfortunately it was a private sale, fortunately it was priced accordingly.

Will do some further investigation into the passenger side under seat area.

Andrew,

Although water ingress is a possibility and you say that the battery is OK, I’d be inclined to get the battery checked-out properly, since it’s important on these cars that it’s in tip-top condition to avoid low voltage problems. You should be able to get that done free by a reputable local battery supplier.

Okay, just wondered as heated steering wheels are not a common specification, so it would seem to be showing messages for things that not only are not on the car but may not be faulty. Sounds very much like a computer fault that may need a reset/reboot or reconfiguration. Is your service record up to date and been serviced by appropriate Porsche garages? I think you need to take it in and get it connected to a diagnostic computer to see if these warnings can be cancelled or reset.

The intermittent nature of the warnings perhaps would suggest a poor connection? You could try remaking connections in any under-carpet module(s) on the passenger side where you’ve noted there could have been water ingress.

Jeff
