Hello all,

I've recently moved to New Zealand and my 993 is on the way to join me. I decided to create a blog to share my Porsche motoring experiences "down under":

http://911nz.blogspot.com/

I've joined the Porsche Club NZ and my PCGB membership runs out at the end of March, so I won't be able to reply to comments on this forum, but you can contact me via the blog.

Hope you find it interesting. I'm certainly looking forward to her arrival !

Cheers,
Rob

Good Luck in NZ Rob.

You should be able to still use this forum as before, its just that your post will appear as Guest rather than Member status

Rob, I'm very jealous - very nearly emigrated to NZ 15 years ago - jobs lined up etc, but GF (who was one with original idea) changed her mind even after finding brilliant career job. Have been several times since - fantastic place.

Agree with you about keenness of police on speed - they also have car-mounted speed radar - I've seen them do a handbrake turn to chase a car that was traveling opposite way from them!

Great that you are not letting a planet get between you and the 993.

Awesome country -enjoy!!

Superb blacktop with hardly any adverse camber, but........draconian speeding laws -look out!

Thanks for your comments, guys. I've actually already clocked up my first speeding fine: $80 for 61kph in 50kph zone in my daily driver. This is on State Highway 1, on a dual carriageway, just after pulling out of a side turn - I thought the limit was 80kph. Oh well, you live and learn [:)]

Fortunately it was an automatic camera, and you don't get points ("demerits" here) for those. Wouldn't want to lose my shiny new NZ license before the 911 arrives !

I'll try to keep the blog up to date and will occasionally post updates here as a "guest of the club".

Rob

I lived in Wellington for 3 years in the early 90's and loved it. 993's were a rare sight (and certainly not affordable by me at the time) so my plaything was a Chevron (NZ built Caterham equivalent). Ahh, I remember Sunday drives around Oriental Parade and out to Red Rocks............ the Desert Road......and yes the local traffic cops are fanatical about speeding.

My Sister & Brother in Law emigrated to NZ 7/8 yrs ago & live in Auckland-they took one of their cars (at the time was a Rover 600 automatic) the same way you describe-arrived without problems & some 6/8 weeks later they were 'phoned to go down to the docks to pick it up-since then cars have become less expensive & they have traded on-Frank however is not a petrolhead & has never mentioned the speeding police.
best of luck out there-certainly the scenery is fabulous-you need to get a boat to match their lifestyle.

Hi,
My youngest son, my other 2 kids are over there already, is emigrating to Western Australia and is looking at shipping his truck over as they are extremely expensive over there and it seems worthwhile.
Could you let me know the company you used in the UK to arrange it please?
We are already getting a quote from one company but others would be nice as this one seems OK
Thanks in anticipation
Brad

Somewhat related also try:

www.schumachercargo.com

Their UK number is (ask for Ian):

01449 723576

We used these guys to ship our cars from the US to UK but I know that they ship UK to everywhere.

Handled everything and even allowed us to watch the loading and unloading of the cars, perfect service all round.
