A brief hello.

I, thought I'd introduce myself, having been lurking on the Forum for a while.

I have recently acquired my first Porsche, an '86 944 Lux, which is most definitely a project car and prime example of what not to buy unless you have a bottomless pit of money to lose or can do it all yourself. It's a somewhat neglected example with some 160K miles having been stood unused for 5 years, but at least it does run and drive.
At present I am tackling a full sill replacement using pukka Porsche panels, along with associated repairs in the sill area. Once that's done I'll have a nice solid shell to work with.

Will post more later.

Cheers

Sounds interesting. As a rough idea, how long would it take to change a full set of sills on a 944?

And Hello, I'm new here as well, everyone is very helpful.

If it was just the outers (an unlikely scenario IMHO) and you knew what you were doing, had all the tools etc OR were getting it done by a bodyshop then I would budget on a week as a minimum if you worked all day every day. In the more likely scenario that the intermediate panels, the inner arches and the area around the rear beam mounts all needed work then easily double that.

This assumes you are fitting Porsche sills which requires the doors off and front wings off first. Patching in a simple panel without drilling out all the original spot welds would of course be quicker but a bit of a bodge in my opinion.

There are plenty sill replacement threads lurking in the search function if you want a good idea of what's involved.

I reckon I have about 20 hours in the first side, Door and wing off, seat out and carpet up, Porsche outer sill and inner panel, plus fabricated repairs to rear beam mount area, rear wheel well and bottom of front wing. This doesn't include final finishing and paintwork.

Will sort some pics and start a thread on the whole saga if you're interested. Gonna be a long haul.[:D]
