a common gear change fault I think?

Hi to all

New member owner of an 84 944 manual.....with what i believe to be a common problem

kangaroo behaviour if less than delicate gear changes accompanied by a mechanical transmission slap

Now ive heard its the clutch donut......or a transmission coupling

whats the likely cause

when travelling in gear its fine....no clutch slip at all

If it clunks when you take your foot off the gas quickly then back on it is the rubber clutch centre gone. There is an inspection cover at the base of the front of the gearbox. Take that off put your hand in (engine off of course) if the shaft moves with it in neutral you need a new clutch.

a response finally........its what i was thinking..........thank you.....will check it out

Never heard of that one before so I don't believe it's all that common.

The rubber donut breakup is normally categorised as a judder when coming on and off the power, but not after a bad gearchange [&:] It would probably be worth seeing a local specialist before forking out for any remedial work when it may just be that a little delicacy is needed with the clutch pedal [;)] , whereabouts in the country are you and maybe we can recommend someone nearby?

Hi

your description is more accurate than my original one as it is more as you describe as a hard thud between letting the power off and bringing it back on again......donut

Im based in southend on sea so if you know any reasonable guys who do porsche clutches it would be appreciated.

Regards

Dave
