A couple of issues

So I did another trackday last week. Since returning I've noticed yet another, what appears to be a small oil leak that's manifesting itself on the left hand side of the car (just ahead of the rear nearside wheel). On inspection last time I had a similar issue, one of the engine bungs freed itself and was sitting at the bottom of the bay!. I cannot believe this has happened again especially as it's been replaced... Other ideas? RMS? It's only a tiny amount and it's not measuring on the dipstick (show's full) but seems to do this after it's been on track...

The other issue happened tonight, don't think it's connected but you never know.. A Check emissions light came on during my journey home tonight and now stays on through starting. I haven't experienced poor running, hesitation or jerkiness, poor fuel economy, smoke during driving etc etc. The only thing I know I have is a rattly heat shield when cold. I don't think this could be the reason. O2 sensor perhaps? I just don't see any symptoms of a problem. The error in the main display panel tells me (in yellow) to drive to a workshop. To be certain, I'll get it recovered with the RAC tomorrow to my specialist.

I've recently had 3 of my coils replaced, the other 3 were cleaned up. Maybe the other 3 have failed but I'd imagine I'd be suffering jerkiness/richness/poor running etc?

The car has done 117k miles, maintained and serviced on a regular basis.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Simon

Although heat shields are known sources of rattle, on my 986 Boxster the lambda sensors used to unscrew themselves and rattle too, especially the downstream ones. This happened on both sides twice in 80k miles and I guess might be worth checking as presumably if one came really loose it could throw an error.

Good point. I'll have the specialist check at the same time.

Just one question on the heat shields. Can you realistically remove the heat-shields, I tend to hear mixed messages on doing this?

Cheers

Mine was a 2.7 and used to get so hot around the exhaust that I used to heat up stuff in the boot and also fried 2 plastic rear number plates even with the heat shields fitted, so removing them (except to fit new clips) wasn't something I contemplated!

Right an interesting update on the situation.

The CEL was found to indicate an airleak type issue. However, on inspection at my specialist the same engine bung as before has popped out leaking some oil and no doubt causing the CEL condition.

So the question is why has the bung (this was a new one) popped? The specialist is doing a pressure test over the next day or so as it's clearly indicating a bigger issue. I'll also be having my air/oil seperator replaced as a matter of cause but there's something weird going on here.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Cheers.

A series of cylinder leakage tests proved there to be no issue, other tests proved fine. So a new bung fitted, cleanup and now a need to drive it quite hard to see what happens..... Whilst I'm pleased the tests proved fine, this shouldn't happen... Rattly heatshields sorted which is a relief as they were annoying on startup...
