A couple of questions

944 man

If you only have a five figure odometer then its a series one car. This has a cable driven speedometer, so thats likely to be the cause: either kinked or worn. With regards to provenance: MOTs and the service book, and of those only the MOTs are reliable (and then only really if you have them all). Simon

Thanks i will have a look at the cable then! if i can find it! lol i think the car has genuine milage it has a stamped service book and body work/engine would also suggest its the correct mileage.

Apart from the obvious place, youll also find the cable attached to the near side front wheel hub.

Hi guys,

Just after some help really, some questions maybe really simple but as im new to 944's id appreciate all your input!!

In the dash clock, how will you know if it hits over 100k miles as there is not another digit space?!

What do i need in order to fit central locking?

The speedo needle is shakey, is that the norm for a car of this age or can it be fixed?

My sunroof wont open and when i press the button the motor makes a noise but nothing happens, any advice?

Cheers in advance...

Elliot

Hi mate not sure about the central locking but non functioning sunroof is a common 944 woe lol. Sounds like it is the cable. There is a motor behind the left hand carpet in the boot which drives a cable. This cable drives gearboxes in the sunroof housing which in turn raise the sunroof. You're sunroof will differ slightly from mine as it is of an older design I think. There is a very comprehensive guide to troubleshooting and fixing both types at www.clarks-garage.com. Replacement cables can be found quite easily if you need one. I got a used one from fleebay for a tenner.

Central locking was an option on 1988 onwards cars. The easiest course of action would be to find a breaker and buy the handles (theyre different) and the other assorted motors and parts.

Hi Elliott The speedo is probably the cable - I had it on mine. The condition of your car would certainly indicate 1st time around the clock, but as the guys say MOTs and history is best evidence. My car, an '83 has central locking but dont know when or how it was fitted - will have to check! I dont have a sunroof but apparently cables and plastic gears are the usual culprits. Mike
