A Day At The Races to celebrate MarkK's Success!

As most of you will doubtless be aware, Mark Koeberle has been competing with a 944 Turbo in the CSCC Future Classics Series this year. This is his first year racing and he has done us all proud and actually won the series!![8D] Incredible! (see "Something I have been working on" for details)

The final meet is at Donington on Sunday 31st October. Practice & Quali will be in the morning, with the race just after lunch, and there will also be night racing later on. Admission is just £12 at the gate.

Anyone fancy going along to celebrate and cheer Mark and the 944 T on?

Should be damn good fun and an opportunity for an impromptu 944 fest![:)]

Don't know exact times yet, but we'll find out soon!

Well done Mark, impressive. How's about celebrating with some donuts after the race at Donington? (and I don't mean the sugar and jam variety)

this is the best I could find on times so far from the CSCC home page:

Donington - 31st October

The Classic Sports Car Club are pleased to announce that we shall once again be running a meeting at Donington Park on 31st October 2010 for Halloween. All our series will be racing in the usual format with the Classic K cars running in a separate class within the Swinging Sixties race.

For the first time the CSCC will also be running two night races at this Meeting.

There will be a 40 minute, 2 Driver race for registered competitors in the Future Classics and MMC Tin Tops Series. There will also be a 15 minute race for JEC Racers in cars complying to the three Jaguar championship regulations.

After the days racing, which is on the same day that the clocks go back, there will be a supper break to allow night to fall. Practice will take place in the dark, after lighting up time, which is officially at 16.37. The circuit curfew is at 19.30.

Due to the expected popularity of this event, we will grant priority entries to competitors who also compete at the Snetterton event.

More details will follow as and when they become available..

Got my finals in my hand times are like this but may change slightly on the day depending on how things go.....
Quali is 900am to 930am
First race 1235pm
Quali for night race is 1750hrs till 1820hrs
Night race is 1900hrs
All above times are for the future classics series, in-between there is loads of other racing including tin tops, jag racing ,swinging sixties etc
If anyone is interested and wants to pop by it would be lovely to have the support.[:)]

Sounds like a really good set of races over and above the 944 action ! Have certainly got this pencilled in to go and it would be great if we could make it into another informal 944 meet a la Rutland Water way back in January.

I'm racing my Toyota in the Tin Tops race! The Future Classics race is at 1235 (40mins); Jag XJS & Saloons @1330 (15 mins); Tin Tops @ 1400 (40 mins); Swinging Sixties @1455 (40 mins); Magnificent Sevens @1550 (40 mins).

The Jag night race is at 1830 (15 mins) after night qualifying & the combined FC, TT & SS night race is at 1900 (40 mins).

The Swinging Sixties grid always seems to be very impressive - from Alfas to E Types & minis to Elans. Its full grid, too, with 10 reserves!!!! The FC grid has 30 cars (inc 7 x 944s, 1 x 924 and 4 x 911s) whilst Tin Tops has 22 cars.

Good luck Mark et al racing this weekend. Hopefully the weather will clear up for the weekend and you get some good clean racing. I perhaps shouldn't say it but I also hope some of the recent very fast machinery isn't turning out as it sort of spoils it for everyone else.

Unfortunately I had to withdraw as my serious electrical problem couldn't be fixed in time. Pretty fed up really as 3 races = 3 DNF's due to the car failing, rear brakes also binding on (ABS seems to work but had 3 rear end lockups at Snett and 1 huge one at Silverstone) but at least the small suspension setup changes seemed to work.

Have a party Mark you deserve it for a brilliant first year, I am sure you already have plenty of plans for next year.

Thanks Neil!!!
The Aston is coming plus the Championship winning 964 from this year plus others of course,so it won't be an easy race by any means but we will see!
Really looking forward to it though, not sure what to expect for the night race hopefully familiarity from the day will help!
Looking forward to next year and I hear that a few other 951s may turn up [;)]

Well I for one certainly don't have any plans to swap engines, although having said that at 1130 Kg and S2 gear ratios my car would accelerate like a motorbike with just a standard 951S lump [8D]. Lord only knows how much its going to cost me, again [:(], to finally get this car sorted. If the wink refers to someone we both know [:D], then I wouldn't count on anything, was mentioned a couple of months back but tbh no one will know until one day you see the car appear in the paddock.

Personally I think the 964 is probably the best basis for a Porsche to run in FC, the 968 isn't eligible and a well sorted 964 is an awesomely quick car and with a tuned lump even more so. I can still remember at Donny 2 years ago seeing guys like Marcus drive away from the front engined cars on the straights. Just a shame there a factor of 2 or more, more expensive to build and certainly more expensive to maintain if one is unfortunate enough to incur mechanical rebuild costs.

I hope to be around as well - may not get up in time for qualification - more likely to be there for the race

I hope to be there for the late race if not before.
Mark had a bit of practice there last week

Thanks for putting the pic up Mike, the rubbing at the back i showed you that day is all fixed now with some different rear spacers, hopefully should all go ok.....!

So, what's the drill for tomorrow?

I haven't been to Donnington for years, I presume we won't get into the paddock?

I saw Mark at the local OPC a few days ago - he will have largish yellow lorry there which should be easy to spot?

Looking forward to the day - wish my 944 wasn't in bits!

Would suggest meet at Redgate lodge cafe 12.00? Farily sure will be able to walk into paddock, but lodge is open to all.
