A different tailgate problem

I have only had my car a few weeks but have noticed that sometimes the rear hatch opens on its own. Luckly the spoiler is heavy enough for it not to open very much but its still annoying as i have to stop to close it again. Its fine most of the time but today for instance i closed it and can then reopen it without a key or using the switch.

Are the two sets of ' jaws' that catch the posts working ok? If there are, you may need to adjust the posts themselves. To paraphrase the FAQ:
Hold the post and loosen the lock nut and then screw the post out a bit. Do both sides equally and try closing the hatch, repeat until it just catches. Don' t loosen too much or it will rattle!

As Alan said, look down into the jaws as you turn the key. They should open and close freely. Mine occasionally stick open because rainwater washes away the grease (these are also the drain holes from the tailgate). Try cleaning all the old grease out with WD40 then repacking them with new grease.

Also don' t overtighten up the four bolts that hold the latches to the bodywork, this also causes the jaws to stick open.
