a few questions regarding 944

Hi everybody, some help from the most knowlegdable crowd around!!

1)can you recommend some front speakers with a great sound as a direct replacement for originals?

i have a early 85 lux.

2)there are some 'max pwr' steering wheels available which look similar to some of the momo wheels, does anybody know if these are any good?

i love my porsche.................

You can get premium brand replacement speakers from any ICE shop including Halfords. I've never done it before as i'm pretty happy with the sound quality from my speakers but I believe that to get to the rear speakers the rear windows need to be removed as the panel lip tucks up into the seal. There have been plenty of threads on this subject if you use the search function.

In terms of steering wheels I have no idea i'm afraid. I can only think that if you like its looks and its feel then go for it. Can't think of any other reason why one steering wheel would be better than any other.

Hello Sim,
Welcome to the Porsche world.
Make sure that when you get replacement speakers that they aren't proud of the speaker grille. I have had Kenwoods in my 944 for about 10 years now, still sound good.
As far as steering wheels are concerned - the original steering wheel isn't round, it is fletter at the bottom (when pointing straight ahead), This makes getting in and out easier especially if you are slightly on the big size around the upper legs. I tend to think that originality is best. Porsche designed it that way for a reason.[:)]
Cheers,

The wheel is round, it's just that the "centre" isn't in the centre. If you go slightly smaller in diameter with a replacement you won't have any problems.

I did indeed (thanks Paul [:)] ) and very happy with it so far.

Never seen the MaxPwr ones in the flesh so not sure how they stack up. Bare in mind the price of the boss too ~ once you've added this in the overall savings of a cheaper wheel aren't so apparent.

Plenty of Momo wheels come up on e-gay, and mine's not the only new one I saw for sale. Be cautious about the diameter - mine is 350mm (std lozenge is 360mm), but a wheel much smaller than that will obscure the useful parts of the speedo and rev-counter quite significantly.

I haven't seen the Max power wheels so can't comment directly but I would recomend you get down to a car accessory shop and have a good look, smell, feel etc of the cheaper wheels on offer. So long as it feels good, looks good and you can get a boss for it (obviously worth considering avoiding wheels that are considerably smaller than the OE unit) then go for it! I certainly do not regret getting rid of the Volkswagen bus wheel that was on the car originaly!
