A Friday afternoon question

How well do you know your Boxster?

The other day I noticed that the seat belt warning bong is cleverer than one might think.

Who can list the criteria required to make it come on.

As i've never heard mine go bong, i'll take a wild guess at:

It's not available on my car

or

Releasing the drivers seatbelt at over 100mph, with the top down in third gear.

(Am I right, am I? I am aren't I)[;)]

Releasing the drivers seatbelt at over 100mph, with the top down in third gear.

Doh: I never tested that. It was too cold to get the top down and our close where I did the testing is too small to get into third or up to 100mph

Ahh, so the tops up and it's, at most, at resonably low speed.

Opening the door while moving at any speed AND releasing the drivers seatbelt. Think an extra hand is required.

Too miserable outside to go and try it now.

Having a bong fitted helps, I dont or has someone shut it up previously [:D]

Dragging us back on thread and rephrasing to the seat belt audible warning, & this may only be relevant to MY 04.

The answer is

Hood up or down makes no difference. Obviously the engine must be on and an unbelted driver in situ. Now it starts to get clever, the car has to be moving forward not backwards. The best bit is the speed must be 7mph or faster. You could drive all day at 6mph without the warning sounding.

I am staggered that so much detail has gone into designing something so trivial as the seat belt audible warning.

Firstly, I take it that you have experimented to find the precise speed that it becomes active at[;)] and secondly, considering the time I have travelled beyond these limits, it obviously isn't available on my MY02. (Shame).

The boot open sounds good though at any speed. (Especially when you're hacking down the motorway.

We probably have our American cousins to thank for this and any other safety related feature on our cars.....

I was in the US on business last week, and the amount of "getting into the bath while holding this running electric chain saw may cause injury..." type warnings had to be seen to be believed. Compare this to the domestic flight in Brazil a colleague of mine took where he said he say the cockpit door open and the hostess sitting on the pilots knee!! Fantastic.
